  • The Short Story: Seven months after advancing to the NCAA Division I Elite Eight, the University of Dayton women's basketball team used a 44-6 edge in points off turnovers to turn away Gannon 109-67 Friday night in an exhibition contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded the first four points. After a second-chance basket by Dayton, senior Morgan Neighbors (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) hit two free throws to tie the contest at two.
  • Dayton followed with six consecutive points and never trailed again.
  • The Flyers eventually led 13-4. The home squad moved its lead into double digits at 17-7 with 4:22 left in the first quarter, before ending the first 10 minutes with a 27-19 lead.
  • Ashleigh Parkinson's triple nine seconds into the second quarter pushed the Dayton lead back into double digits at 30-19.
  • Gannon produced a pair of 5-0 runs during the second quarter. The final one came via a three-pointer and two free throws by Neighbors, cutting the deficit to 44-31 with 2:51 left in the first half.
  • Dayton responded with seven consecutive points and later went to halftime with a 53-32 advantage.
  • Gannon played a competitive third quarter, but Dayton earned a 30-22 edge in scoring to assume an 83-54 lead heading into the final quarter.
  • Dayton grabbed its biggest lead of the evening of 44 points on three different occasions during the final 72 seconds, before the final horn sounded with a 109-67 score.

  • Neighbors led all scorers on both sides with 25 points. The senior guard hit 6-of-8 shots from the field, 4-of-6 three-pointers and 9-of-11 free throws.
