BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Gannon men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned to dual action on Saturday afternoon against NCAA Division I opponent Canisius at the Koessler Athletic Center. The Golden Knights fell to the host Golden Griffins, 129-74, while the No. 25 Lady Knights dropped a 116-80 decision to the Griffs. The Golden Knights fall to 3-5 on the season with the Lady Knights moving to 7-3 overall.

To open the meet, the Lady Knights' 400-yard medley relay team of freshman Samantha Favret (Watertown, N.Y. / Watertown), freshman Gabrielle Borza (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny), sophomore Madeline Summers (Lake Stevens, Wash. / Lake Stevens) and sophomore Morgan Lydic (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio / Cuyahoga Falls) captured first place (4:03.75).

In the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Emily Nottingham (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) placed second (25.35) followed by Lydic in third (25.40). Nottingham also finished second (56.25) in the 100-yard freestyle later in the dual.

The Lady Knights' took three of the top-four spots in the 200-yard IM. Recording a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying time, Summers led the Lady Knights with a second-place finish (2:14.86) followed by junior Amanda Knapp (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) in third (2:21.56) and Abigail Wu (Milford, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) in fourth (2:22.49).  In the next event, Summers added a third-place performance (2:19.30) in the 200-yard butterfly.

A trio of Lady Knights captured the top-three spots in the 200-yard breaststroke including Borza in first (2:31.78) with a conference qualifying time, freshman Emily Cornelius (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) in second (2:41.45) and junior Corinna Luschini (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) in third (2:47.58).

To conclude the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Nottingham, sophomore Shanen Lazenby (Erie, Pa./McDowell), junior Katie Joseph (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) and Lydic finished first (1:42.77).

On the men's side, the afternoon opened with the closest race of the day as the Golden Knights' 400-yard medley relay team of junior Adam Chrzanowski (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Prep), (Erie, Pa./McDowell) Mike Smith, sophomore Denys Fedrochenko (Zaborizhia, Ukraine) and freshman Matthew Loughner (Jeannette, Pa./Penn-Trafford) edge the Golden Griffins by three-tenths of a second for a first-place finish (3:37.41).

In the 1650-yard freestyle, Fedrochenko finished second (16:41.55) followed by sophomore Mike Lawrence (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario/Notre-Dame-des-Grands-Lacs) in third (17:07.57). Fedrochenko earned his first PSAC qualifying time of the afternoon.

The Golden Knights dominated the 200-yard freestyle race, taking the top-three spots with each securing conference-qualifying times. Chrzanowski earned his first top-finish (1:45.32) of the afternoon with freshman Drew Wolter (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) in second (1:48.51) and sophomore Ryan Carter (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) in third (1:49.77).

Fedrochenko led the field in the 200-yard butterfly with a conference standard of 1:58.76. Chrzanowski nabbed his second conference-qualifying top-finish, placing first (1:56.97) in the 200-yard backstroke.

Taking third-place in the 500-yard freestyle, Wolter earned a conference-qualifying time of 4:58.41. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Lawrence placed third (2:17.07) with a conference-standard.

Gannon returns to action at the Cleveland State Tri-meet on Friday, Jan. 17, against the host Vikings and Valparaiso. The day's action will begin at 5 p.m.
