Gannon Softball Team Concludes Regular Season with Two Weekend Twinbills; Host No. 7 Cal Saturday

The Lady Knights will determine their postseason fate this weekend with four PSAC West doubleheaders in two days.
ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon softball team concludes the regular season this weekend with two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division doubleheaders that will determine PSAC Tournament seeding. The Lady Knights begin the final weekend Friday, April 26 at Edinboro. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. The regular season concludes Saturday, April 27 against seventh-ranked California (Pa.) at Gannon University Field. Game one is slated to start at 1 p.m.

Gannon-Edinboro History: Edinboro swept a PSAC doubleheader at Gannon University Field on April 9 by scores of 3-0 and 11-8. The sweep tied the all-time series at 30. Gannon had won six consecutive games against Edinboro prior to the April 9 encounter. The Lady Knights swept four games from the Fighting Scots last season. Gannon posted two road victories (7-2, 2-1) on April 5 before completing the season sweep at home (3-0, 5-3) on April 22.

Gannon-California (Pa.) History: California (Pa.) has won five straight games against Gannon and leads the all-time series 23-3. The Vulcans are 16-2 in the series since the Lady Knights joined the PSAC, including a perfect 8-0 mark at Gannon University Field. Cal previously swept a home twinbill against Gannon on April 14, winning 3-2 and 6-4.

PSAC Tournament Format: The top three teams in each of the PSAC's three divisions will qualify for the nine-team conference tournament scheduled for May 1-4 at Veteran's Park in Quakertown, Pennsylvania.

PSAC Tournament Implications: Gannon enters the final four games of the regular season tied with Edinboro for the final playoff spot in the PSAC Western Division. Both squads are percentage points behind second-place Slippery Rock and one game ahead of last-place Mercyhurst. The Lady Knights can still finish second, third, fourth or fifth pending this weekend's action.
