ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon softball team dropped both ends of a PSAC West doubleheader to Seton Hill Thursday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium, falling 4-1 in the opener and 8-5 in the nightcap.

Seton Hill struck first with a run in the opening frame before adding two more in the fourth to build a 3-0 lead. The Griffins added an insurance run in the seventh.

Gannon broke through in the fifth inning when Ashley Fox (Cowansville, Pa./Karns City) delivered an RBI double down the left field line to score Carlyn Vaupel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and cut the deficit to 3-1. 

The Golden Knights also threatened in the first inning, loading the bases, but a double play ended the Golden Knights' rally as Gannon finished with eight hits on the afternoon.

In game two, Gannon jumped out early with a run in the first on an RBI walk by Carlyn Vaupel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and added another in the second on an RBI single from Emily Spears (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) to take a 2-0 lead.

Seton Hill answered with three runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run home run, and continued to build its lead with two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to make it 8-4.

Gannon responded in the fourth when Jenna Clontz (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) blasted a two-run home run to cut the deficit to one. The Golden Knights added another run in the sixth on a wild pitch following a Jenna Clontz (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) double but were unable to complete the comeback.
