The Aliquippa, Pa., native began his collegiate career as a valuable sixth man on the 1976-77 team that hosted the NCAA East Regional during his freshman campaign. Adamson proceeded to lead Gannon in scoring the next three seasons as a sophomore, junior and senior. He led Gannon to a .664 (73-37) winning percentage during his four years, including a pair of 20-win seasons and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Adamson later played professionally in Australia for eight years after his graduation. Upon retirement, he coached for another 10 years at various levels that included the professional ranks.
Erin Cray Pizzo '01, '06M (Women's Soccer) concluded her collegiate career as Gannon's all-time leader in goals (34), assists (22) and points (90). Her school records for assists stood until 2008 while her marks for goals and points stood until 2011. Cray Pizzo broke the school's single-season records for goals (15) and points (37) as a junior. Both figures stood until 2011.
The McKeesport, Pa., native was a three-time All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) selection in 1998, 1999 and 2000. Cray Pizzo was named to the all-region second team as a sophomore in 1998. The forward still owns two of the school's top-six single-season goal totals and two of the top seven point totals.
Kelly Reedy Elwell '85, '93M (Women's Basketball) concluded her career third all-time at Gannon in scoring (1,315), second in steals (238), second in assists (366) and third in field goals made (596). Even more impressive was the fact those numbers were produced before the three-point line was introduced in college basketball. The guard's career statistical resume included a 12.5 scoring average, 449 rebounds and 69 blocked shots.
The Erie, Pa., native was named to the NCAA Division II All-Region and ASWF Fast Break All-America honorable-mention teams as a senior. Reedy Elwell was also special in the classroom, being named an Academic All-American and receiving the Doc Beyer Award for Outstanding Achievement in Scholarship and Athletics. She also received the Academic Award for Excellence in Accounting. Reedy Elwell graduated Magnum Cum Laude, before producing a perfect 4.0 while obtaining her master's degree in business administration.
Reedy Elwell's name still remains scattered throughout the Gannon record books. She currently ranks fifth all-time in steals, sixth in field goals made, sixth in field goals attempted (1,255), eighth in assists, ninth in scoring, 10th in scoring average, 11th in blocked shots and 21st in rebounds. A team captain and four-year starter, Reedy Elwell led Gannon to a winning record every season. She proved to be a versatile student-athlete, playing all five positions at some point during her career.
Pete Karuba '51 (Football) was one of Gannon's best football players during the legendary years of 1949 and 1950, before the program was discontinued until 1989. In addition to playing offensive and defensive tackle, Karuba also handled the placekicking duties. He was named to the All-East and All-Pennsylvania first teams as a senior. Both honors represented awards that considered all teams at every level of the NCAA at the time. He represented Gannon on all-star teams that included players from Penn State, the University of Pittsburgh and all programs that are now considered Division I.
The Erie, Pa., native originally played at Duquesne before transferring to Gannon. Karuba played for the only undefeated team in school history when the 1949 squad went 8-0. He helped Gannon post a 14-2 record during his two seasons in 1949 and 1950. Karuba had strong football genes in his blood line as the uncle of National Football League (NFL) Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff.
Brett Lindenmuth '97 (Men's Swimming) is the only male swimmer in school history to earn all-america honors in two different seasons. In all, he captured four all-america honors during his junior and senior campaigns.
The Churchville, N.Y., native still holds the school records in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.77) and the 200-yard breaststroke (1:57.03) 17 years after his graduation. Lindenmuth earned all-america status in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events in 1996 and 1997. He finished sixth nationally in the 200-yard breaststroke at the 1997 NCAA Division II National Championships.
Lantz Schwabenbauer '01 (Wrestling) was a three-time NCAA Division II East Region champion at 165 pounds (1997-98, 1998-99, 2000-01), qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Championships each time. A two-time All-American, he finished third nationally in 2000-01 and eighth in 1998-99. Schwabenbauer was also a two-time Academic All-American (1998-99 and 2000-01) and a two-time team captain (1999 and 2001).
The Franklin, Pa., native won 75 percent of his career matches, producing a 105-35 overall record with 22 pins. Those numbers included a 40-11 dual record, representing a .784 dual winning percentage. Schwabenabuer ranks second all-time at Gannon in overall victories, third in dual victories, sixth in overall winning percentage, eighth in dual winning percentage and ninth in pins. He has been giving back to the Gannon wrestling program as an assistant coach since 2007. The program has produced 14 All-Americans, eight national qualifiers and 31 Academic All-Americans during his time on the coaching staff.
Terry Waldorf '91 (Men's Soccer) remains Gannon's all-time goalkeeping leader in shutouts, goals against average and victories despite graduating 24 years ago. A two-time all-region selection as a sophomore and senior, Waldorf concluded his collegiate career by being named the NCAA Division II Goalkeeper of the Year and the ISAA/Adidas Player of the Year. He produced a 46-9-5 record with a 0.80 goals against average and 31 shutouts during four seasons.
The Buffalo, N.Y., native recorded nine shutouts during both the 1988 and 1989 campaigns, representing the second-highest single-season total in school history. Waldorf's 0.50 goals against average as a sophomore in 1988 remains the lowest figure in school history. His 0.83 mark as a senior ranks fifth all-time at Gannon.
An Academic All-American as a senior, Waldorf graduated from Gannon Summa Cum Laude in 1991. Following graduation, he played with semi-pro Club Italia in St. Catherine's, Ontario. Waldorf then played professionally in the Dutch Premier Division with the Willem II Football Club in Tilburg, Netherlands. His professional career included stops with the Buffalo Blizzard (1992-95) and the Houston Hotshots (1997-01). Waldorf was named an all-star while helping Houston advance to back-to-back championship series (1996-97).
Debra Wood Konjanovski '99, '02M (Women's Lacrosse) has held Gannon's all-time record for career points (359) since her graduation 15 years ago. The total was the best in the history of NCAA Division II for 10 years after her collegiate career came to an end. The attacker ranks third all-time at Gannon in goals (216) and fourth in assists (143). Both figures represented school records at the time of her graduation. Wood Konjanovski owns the top two single-season point totals in school history, producing 111 points as a junior in 1998 and 103 points as a sophomore in 1997.
The Uniontown, Pa., native was a lacrosse pioneer as a member of Gannon's first-ever varsity team in 1996. Wood Konjanovski earned all-america honors three times (1997-99) each from the United States Women's Lacrosse Association and the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). She was named NCAA Division II Offensive Player of the Year by the IWLCA as a junior. Her 76 goals in 1997 stood as the program's top figure until the single-season mark was broken 13 years later while her 61 assists in 1998 remained No. 1 for 12 seasons.
Wood Konjanovski also proved to be a model student-athlete, being named a GTE Academic All-American as a junior and senior. She was a four-year member of the Gannon Dean's List.
Rick "Stats" Klapthor '79 will be the 2014 Distinguished Service Award recipient.
