ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon softball team opens Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action this weekend as the Lady Knights host Indiana (Pa.) in the home opener Saturday. Gannon opens the weekend with a road contest at California (Pa.) Friday.
The Lady Knights enter the weekend with a 13-6 overall record. Gannon returned from the National Training Center Games in Florida with a 6-4 record before taking care of four out of five opponents at the PSAC-WVIAC Crossover. The Lady Knights split a doubleheader with Wheeling Jesuit to account for the season record.
Gannon boasts a .278 team batting average entering the weekend, led by
Kirstie Cortazzo's (Jeannette, Pa. / Jeannette) .377 average. The sophomore leads the team in both hits (23) and doubles (7) and is second in RBIs (10). Jalessa Sledge (Olean, N.Y. / Olean) has a team-best three home runs this season to go along with a .345 batting average and eight RBIs.
On the mound, all three of Gannon's hurlers boast winning records with ERAs below two.
Erica Bartholow (Connellsville, Pa. / Connellsville Area) has seven wins through her first nine starts, already surpassing her win total from last season. She holds a 1.73 ERA with 31 strikeouts this season.
Megan Dragon (Ashtabula, Ohio / Edgewood) has five wins this season, striking out 64 batters in just over 63 innings of work. Her 1.44 ERA is the best among the staff.
Jess Rectenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) earned a win in her first trip to the mound after providing four innings of relief work in which she allowed just one base runner.
Indiana (Pa.) enters the weekend with a 10-6-1 record. The Crimson Hawks are led offensively by Megan McCormick and Marissa Leslie who have 17 and 18 hits respectively. McCormick is the only Crimson Hawk in double digits in RBIs with 12.
On the mound, Alexa Campbell boasts a 1.01 ERA through 55 innings pitched. She has limited opponents to a .232 batting average with 28 strikeouts.
