LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Gannon men's water polo team finished the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Championship with a 17-10 loss to Notre Dame (Ohio) in the seventh-place match.
The Golden Knights and Falcons were tied after the first eight minutes with each squad scoring twice. Gannon's scorers were
Tommy Nimrod (Glenview, Ill. / Glenbrook South) and
Nathan Bean (Houston, Tx. / Cypress Creek). Notre Dame pulled away slightly in the second quarter with a 4-2 scoring advantage, holding a 6-4 lead at half.
The two teams traded goals in the third quarter as each squad netted three goals.
Daisuke Takagi (Tsukuba, Japan / Namiki) and
Adam Wolf (Worthington, Ohio / Thomas Worthington) each added their first goal of the match while Nimrod netted a score for the third-straight quarter. Notre Dame nearly doubled their scoring total in the fourth, exploding for eight scores compared to just three for the Golden Knights.
Overall, Nimrod and Takagi led the Gannon offensive effort with three scores each. Wolf and Bean each finished with two goals.
Neal Zoellick (Homewood, Ill. / Homewood-Flossmoor) turned in his third double-digit save performance of the weekend with 10.
Gannon's record fell to 8-11 while George Washington improved to 12-16.
