Gannon Softball Team to Face No. 24 California (Pa.) on Thursday

Head Coach Tom Jakubowski's squad will face nationally ranked California (Pa.) Thursday at Gannon University Field

ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon softball team will face No. 24 California (Pa.) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader on Thursday at Gannon University Field at 2:30 p.m.

The Lady Knights hold an 13-11 record this season and are 2-4 in conference. Most recently, Gannon swept a non-conference doubleheader with Point Park on Sunday. Megan Dragon (Ashtabula, Ohio / Edgewood) allowed just one hit in Gannon's 2-0 win over the Pioneers

Dragon (9-6) lowered her ERA to 2.65 after Sunday's performance. In the latest nationally rankings (April 3) Dragon was 19th in the country in walks allowed at .99 per seven innings. The sophomore is also 26th in total strikeouts with 129.

Katie Killian (Akron, Ohio / St. Vincent-St. Mary) has been one of Gannon's most consistent hitters and is leading the team with a .386 batting average. Against Point Park she was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI during the 12-4 win.

Kirstie Cortazzo (Jeannette, Pa. / Jeannette) is hitting .310 this season and accounted for the only two runs in Gannon's 2-0 win against Edinboro with an RBI double in the bottom of the firrst inning. 

California (19-7, 4-0) has relied on its potent offense this season, with six hitters posting batting averages of .346 or better. Alyson Johnson is leading the group with a .429 average along with 4 home runs. Sarah Spiering is hitting .400 while Shelby Lia has posted a .386 average this season.

Jillian Russell represents the power threat in the lineup with eight homeruns and 32 RBI this season. She is hitting .368 this season and ranks third in the country in RBI per game (1.23)

Kaitlyn Schilling has a team-best 1.72 ERA this season with a 7-2 record while Hope Spancake has eight wins in the circle with a 2.26 ERA.
