ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's water polo team will host its final two home matches of the season this weekend at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. The Lady Knights will take on Mercyhurst on Friday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Bucknell on Saturday, April 16 at 7 p.m.
The Lady Knights had won seven in a row before running into #13 Indiana, who snapped the streak by handing Gannon a 15-4 loss on April 8. Prior to that the Lady Knights completed two perfect weekends at the Penn State Behrend Invitational and the Grove City Tournament.
Gannon (8-14, 3-3) is led this season by
Colleen Harriger's (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) 57 goals. The senior ranks 12th nationally in the category while also leading the team in assists (16) and steals (42).
Molly Andrews (Tustin, Calif. / Tustin) is Gannon's second offensive threat with 36 goals and 24 steals.
Earlier this week, Gannon received votes for the first time this season in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 poll. The Lady Knights sit just outside the top ten, with 22 points.
Mercyhurst, who is ranked eighth in the CWPA Top 10 poll, enters the contest with a 13-8 overall record and a 1-3 conference record. The Lakers previously defeated the Lady Knights 11-5 to represent their lone conference win. Mercyhurst is led by Rachel Griepsma's 48 goals and Rebecca Wright's 36 scores. In the cage, Hope Rozell has 201 saves this season.
Bucknell (10-14, 0-2) is 10th in the latest CWPA Top 10 poll. Bucknell is still winless in CWPA action this season, with both losses coming to nationally ranked Michigan and Indiana. Bucknell defeated the Lady Knights earlier this season by an 11-1 score at the Bucknell Invitational. Hallie Kennan is the leading scorer with 46 goals this season. Julianne Valdes is second with 37 scores.
