WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Gannon men's water polo team picked up its second win of the season with a 9-6 victory over Washington and Jefferson College Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights and the Presidents played even for the first two quarters as each team picked up two goals in the first quarter and one in the second quarter. Gannon gained an advantage after three quarters of play out-scoring the Presidents 2-1. Gannon put the game out of reach scoring four goals in the final quarter while holding Washington and Jefferson to just two.
Greg Naranjo (Coral Springs, Fla. / Stoneman Douglas) provided most of the offense for the Golden Knights picking up five goals on the day. For the season Naranjo has 13 goals in five games.
Phil Myrick (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Prep) and
Greg Nelson (Homewood, Ill. / Homewood-Flossmoor) each added two goals in the victory for the Golden Knights. Sophomore goalkeeper
Neal Zoellick (Homewood, Ill. / Homewood-Flossmoor) had seven saves.
The Golden Knights are now 2-3 on the season while the Presidents fall to 0-2. Gannon's second game of the day against Salem International has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date. Gannon will return to action on Friday, September 24 when they host Mercyhurst College at 7:00 p.m.
