Gannon Baseball Takes on PSAC West Leader Cal (Pa.) this Weekend

The Gannon baseball team will play California four times this weekend.
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon baseball team will play four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division games against California (Pa.) April 9-10. The Golden Knights host Friday's doubleheader at Gannon University Field and the Vulcans will host Saturday's games at CONSOL Energy Park. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on both days.

Gannon (17-13, 11-5 PSAC) won four games against Clarion April 2-3. The 11 conference wins is the most for GU since the 2003 season. The Knights are among others receiving votes in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Atlantic Regional Poll. 

Tim Lipp (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) leads the team with a .371 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage. Jordan Bergado (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) is hitting .363 with eight doubles. His .488 slugging percentage is tied for the team lead. Greg Radwan (Farnham, N.Y./St. Francis) is 5-1 with a 1.93 ERA and six complete games in 2010. The senior has compiled 46 strikeouts in 42 innings. His ERA is the best among PSAC pitchers who have qualified for the season. As a team, the Knights have a 4.43 ERA, third-best in the league. 

Cal leads the PSAC Western Division with a 10-2 record. It is 19-10 overall and among others receiving votes in the latest NCBWA Atlantic poll. Evan King is batting .429 with a .538 on-base percentage. Troy Handza has seven home runs and 38 RBIs this season. Randy Sturgill is 5-1 with a 3.14 ERA. He has struck out 54 hitters, most in the PSAC. The Vulcans are second in the conference in team batting average at .340 this year.
