FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Gannon University baseball team won 5-4 in 11 innings at Fredonia State Wednesday afternoon.
Jeff Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) hit a home run in the 11th to give the Golden Knights the non-league victory at Ludwig Field.
With one out in the top of the 11th frame, Jones hit a solo homer off Jake Nowak to put GU ahead 5-4.
Greg Radwan (Farnham, N.Y./St. Francis) came on in the bottom of the inning and struck out the side for the save.
Fredonia scored twice in the first inning and held the advantage until the seventh.
Brandon Crum's (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) two-out base hit sparked a Gannon rally. Jones followed with a double to score Crum and then
Tim Lipp (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) posted a two-bagger of his own to plate Jones and tie the contest at two.
The Blue Devils regained the lead with a lone run in the bottom of the seventh and then added another score in the eighth to go up 4-2. The Knights made another comeback, though, as
Shaine Patsilevas (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) doubled to lead off the ninth. Crum singled and then Jones' sacrifice fly drive in Patsilevas. Crum advanced on a wild pitch and then Lipp drove him in with a base hit, tying the game.
Reliever
Drew Rojek (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) held Fredonia hitless in the next two innings and then Jones continued his big day with the game-winning blast.
GU compiled 13 hits, as Lipp, Crum, Jones,
Kolten Hoffman (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex), and
Jordan Bergado (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) each had two. Jones had three RBIs and two runs scored.
Jeff Miller (Masury, Ohio/Brookfield) picked up the win, going six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits.
Gannon (18-17) continues non-conference play this weekend. The Knights travel to Lake Erie College for four games April 16-17. A complete box score for Wednesday's game is available
