WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Gannon University baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader with Assumption Friday at the Russ-Matt Invitational. Assumption won by scores of 6-1 and 7-2.
Evan Euler (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Michael Colebrook staged a pitching dual in the first game. Through three innings, there was no score. The Greyhounds scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, though, and then broke open the contest with five more runs in the fifth.
Tim Lipp (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) drove in a run in the sixth, but it wasn't enough for GU. Euler took the loss, pitching 6 innings. He allowed nine hits and five earned runs.
Assumption got going earlier in the second game, scoring twice in the second inning.
Shaine Patsilevas (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and
Jordan Bergado (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) drove in runs in the fourth frame to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Greyhounds added four more scores in the top of the seventh to seal the sweep.
Mark Carlozzi (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) went 6 2/3 innings, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits.
Gannon (4-6) closes out action in Florida with a doubleheader against the University of Mary Saturday, March 6. The first game is set to start at 9:30 a.m. A complete box score for Friday's games will be available upon the team's return to Erie next weekend.
