ERIE, Pa.- The Gannon women's water polo team lost to crosstown rival Mercyhurst 7-6 in overtime at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion (CAP) Friday night.
The Lakers took a 2-1 lead through one period and led 4-3 at halftime. GU outscored the Hurst 2-1 in the third to tie the match. The teams each scored once in the fourth quarter to send it to extra time. The Lakers scored early in the six-minute frame and held on for the one-goal victory.
Molly Andrews (Tustin, Calif./Tustin) led the Lady Knights with three goals.
Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa./McDowell),
Annie Greenhill (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda), and
Kendra Plackemeier (Bonsall, Calif./Fallbrook) each added a goal apiece.
Janelle Bartman (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) recorded six saves in net.
Gannon is now 4-14 overall, 1-2 in the CWPA. Mercyhurst improved to 1-9 overall, 1-1 in the CWPA.
GU will play two matches Saturday at the Penn State Behrend Invitational. The Knights face Chatham University at 11:45 a.m. and then Villanova at 7:15 p.m.
