ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon University baseball team lost to Fredonia State Wednesday afternoon at GU Field. The Blue Devils won 8-2 as Matt Saeva threw a complete game for the win.
Neither team scored in the game's first three innings, but Fredonia State then scored three runs in the top of the fourth frame. The Golden Knights responded with two scores in the bottom of the inning.
Kolten Hoffman (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) was hit by a pitch with two outs and then
Frank Jagoda (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk Senior) doubled to right centerfield, scoring Hoffman.
Greg Radwan (Farnham, N.Y./St. Francis) followed with a double of his own to drive in Jagoda.
FSU answered with two more runs in the fifth and then three scores in the sixth inning to take control of the contest.
Peter Grouios (Toronto, Ontario/East York Collegiate Institute) threw 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief, allowing just one hit.
Five different Knights recorded hits, as
Ford Eisenman (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy),
Tim Lipp (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk), and
Shaine Patsilevas (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) each had singles.
Saeva went nine innings for Fredonia State, giving up two runs on five hits for the victory.
The Knights host Indiana (Pa.) Friday, April 17, in a PSAC doubleheader at Gannon University Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
