Shaffer is expected to compete for playing time in the outfield as a true freshman.

High School: Played at Moniteau (Pa.) High School … is Moniteau's all-time leader in RBI and triples … holds single-season records for RBI, walks, and on-base percentage … was part of the Moniteau team which finished the 2005 season as the district runner-up … won seven national medals in the Academic Decathlon, winning the state championship in 2006 and 2007.

Personal: Chemistry major ... has two sisters and one brother ... son of Brenda and Phil Shaffer ... is a member of the Gannon Dean's List.
