EDINBORO, Pa. – The Gannon men's cross country team opened the 2026 season with a strong showing at the Doug Watts Open, placing five runners inside the top 17 on Saturday.
Freshman Dane Hieronimus (Toledo, Ohio/Bedford Senior) led the way for the Golden Knights in his collegiate debut, finishing fifth overall with a time of 20:14.10. He was one of four Gannon runners to finish inside the top 15.
Brodie Terkhorn (Jeffersonville, Ind./St. Xavier) followed in 13th place with a time of 20:38.50, while Mikey Schimelfenig crossed the line in 14th at 20:41.10. Bradyn Rusch (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) finished directly behind Schimelfenig in 15th place with a time of 20:43.80.
Noah Mammone (Hudson, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) rounded out Gannon's top five scorers with a 17th-place finish in 20:53.80. The Golden Knights' five scoring runners combined for 64 points.
Gannon also received top-30 finishes from Robert Tang (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon), who placed 28th in 21:09.90, and Ethan Boots (Poland, Ohio/Boardman), who finished 30th in 21:17.90.
Slippery Rock's Easton Adamczyk won the individual race with a time of 19:50.50. A total of 85 runners competed in the event.
