ERIE, Pa. —
Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) of the women's golf team and
Dane Hieronimus (Toledo, Ohio/Bedford Senior) of the men's cross country team have been named the Gannon University Student-Athletes of the Week following standout performances for the Golden Knights.
Mateo continued her strong fall season at the William Beall Fall Classic hosted by Findlay, finishing third in a field of 96 golfers at Findlay Country Club. Her performance earned her PSAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week honors, becoming the first Golden Knight to receive the conference award this season.
The senior from Sabadell, Spain, put together three consistent rounds, finishing the 54-hole event at 6-over-par 222 with scores of 74, 75 and 73. She saved her best for Tuesday's final round, firing a 1-over 73 to secure third place and a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Mateo was one of just three golfers in the field to finish the tournament at 6-over or better. Her performance also helped Gannon finish seventh in the 18-team field with a three-round total of 933.
Hieronimus turned in a strong performance for the Gannon men's cross country team at the Lewis Crossover, placing 138th overall with a time of 26:19.1 in the men's 8K race.
His time ranked as the third-fastest by a Gannon runner on the course in program history, while his finish was the highest by a Gannon runner at the Lewis Crossover in program history.
The freshman accomplished the feat against a competitive field that included seven nationally ranked teams or teams receiving votes.
