ERIE, Pa. – Gannon Athletics heads into another busy week of fall competition with nine Golden Knight teams in action, highlighted by Homecoming Weekend and a full slate of events on Saturday.

The week begins with men's golf competing Monday and Tuesday at the WCU Battlefield Classic in Gettysburg, Pa. Men's soccer and women's soccer take the field Wednesday, while men's water polo and volleyball begin weekend competition Friday. Saturday's schedule features cross country, women's golf, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's water polo and men's soccer.

Football highlights the home schedule with a 1 p.m. Homecoming Weekend match up against Lock Haven at McConnell Family Stadium, while volleyball hosts a pair of matches during Alumni Weekend.

Men's Golf

Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 21-22 – Gannon at WCU Battlefield Classic – All Day

The Gannon men's golf team returns to the course Monday and Tuesday at the WCU Battlefield Classic in Gettysburg, Pa.

The Golden Knights opened the fall season with a seventh-place finish in the 20-team UC Invitational, finishing the 54-hole event at 33-over 873. Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) led Gannon with a third-place finish at even-par 210 after rounds of 70, 69 and 71. Rasmus Seppanen (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) tied for 23rd at 8-over, while Carson Moniz (Laramie, WY/Laramie) led Gannon's individual competitors with a tie for 21st at 7-over.

Gannon looks to build on its season-opening performance during the two-day event in Gettysburg.

Men's Soccer

Wednesday, Sept. 23 – Gannon vs. Lock Haven – 3 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 26 – Gannon vs. Pitt-Johnstown – 6:30 p.m.

The Gannon men's soccer team enters the week riding a five-match unbeaten streak after earning a 2-1 victory over D'Youville on Wednesday.

Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil/Objetivo Aquarius) opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute before D'Youville tied the match late in the second half. Mario Lindo (Madrid, Spain/IES Juan Gris) delivered the game-winner at 87:06 off an assist from Evan Beglin (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) as Gannon improved to 4-1-1 on the season.

The Golden Knights have won four of their last five matches, with the only non-victory during that stretch coming in a 2-2 draw against Post.

Gannon begins the week by hosting Lock Haven on Wednesday at 3 p.m. before returning to McConnell Family Stadium Saturday night for a 6:30 p.m. match up with Pitt-Johnstown.

Women's Soccer

Wednesday, Sept. 23 – Gannon at Roberts Wesleyan – 4 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 26 – Gannon at Pitt-Johnstown – 1 p.m.

The Gannon women's soccer team takes a three-match winning streak on the road this week following shutout victories over Edinboro and Lock Haven.

Brooklyn Respecki (McKean, Pa./General McLane) enjoyed a breakout week, scoring twice in Gannon's 2-0 victory at Edinboro before adding two more goals in Saturday's 3-0 win over Lock Haven. Bella Prince (Bradford,Pa./Bradford Area) also scored against the Bald Eagles as the Golden Knights outshot Lock Haven 21-4.

Gannon has not allowed a goal during its three-match winning streak, which also includes a 3-0 victory over California (Pa.). The Golden Knights enter the week at 4-2-1 overall and in PSAC play.

Gannon steps out of conference play Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest at Roberts Wesleyan before returning to PSAC West action Saturday at Pitt-Johnstown at 1 p.m.

Men's Water Polo

Friday, Sept. 25 – Gannon at Mercyhurst – 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 26 – Gannon vs. Mount St. Mary's (Md.) – 11 a.m.

The Gannon men's water polo team returns to action this weekend at the Laker Invitational at Hallman Aquatics Center.

The Golden Knights last competed at the Salem Invitational, where they opened the weekend with a 19-9 victory over Washington & Jefferson before falling to George Washington, Fresno Pacific and Johns Hopkins. Gannon narrowly missed against Fresno Pacific in a 13-12 decision before falling 17-12 to Johns Hopkins.

Nikiforos Liantziris (Athens, Greece/1o EPAL Zografou) led Gannon during the final day of the Salem Invitational with nine goals and three assists across two contests, including five goals against Johns Hopkins. Victor Volant (Fuveau, France/Font d'Aurumy) added five goals and four assists over the two matches.

Gannon opens the Laker Invitational against crosstown rival Mercyhurst on Friday at 5:30 p.m. before facing Mount St. Mary's on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Volleyball

Friday, Sept. 25 – Gannon vs. California (Pa.) – 7 p.m. – Alumni Weekend
Saturday, Sept. 26 – Gannon vs. Seton Hill – 4 p.m. – Alumni Weekend

Gannon volleyball returns home with plenty of momentum after extending its winning streak to 10 matches with three victories last week.

The Golden Knights opened the week by sweeping Edinboro in their PSAC West opener before traveling to Hillsdale, Mich. Gannon defeated Hillsdale 3-1 on Friday and followed with another 3-1 victory against Ashland on Saturday to improve to 11-2.

Gannon has won every match since dropping two contests during the opening weekend of the season. The Golden Knights return to Highmark Events Center for Alumni Weekend, hosting California (Pa.) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Seton Hill on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Men's & Women's Cross Country

Saturday, Sept. 26 – Gannon at Harry F. Anderson Invitational – 10 a.m.

The Gannon men's and women's cross country teams return to competition Saturday after three weeks away from racing when they travel to Rochester, N.Y. for the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan.

Both teams opened the season with third-place finishes at the Doug Watts Open on Sept. 5. Freshman Dane Hieronimus (Toledo, Ohio/Bedford Senior) led the men's team with a fifth-place finish in the 6K, while Alexis Abbett (Aspinwall, Pa./Aquinas Academy) paced the women with a sixth-place showing in the 5K.

The Gannon men finished third in the six-team field, while the women placed third among eight teams. Saturday marks the second meet of the season for both squads.

Women's Golf

Saturday, Sept. 26 – Gannon at Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite – All Day

The Gannon women's golf team returns to action at the Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich.

The Golden Knights opened their season with a runner-up finish at the UC Invitational, finishing three strokes behind host Charleston at 33-over 601. Gannon closed the tournament with an 11-over 295, the lowest team round of the event.

Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) led the Golden Knights with a tie for sixth at 5-over 147, while Sophia Reed (Estero, Fla./Estero) finished 12th at 8-over and Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) tied for 13th at 9-over.

Gannon now heads to Allendale for its second tournament of the fall season.

Football

Saturday, Sept. 26 – Gannon vs. Lock Haven – 1 p.m. – Homecoming Weekend

The Gannon football team returns to McConnell Family Stadium on Saturday when the Golden Knights host Lock Haven as part of Homecoming Weekend.

Gannon is coming off a 33-27 overtime setback against Bloomsburg on Senior Day. The Golden Knights built leads of 13-3 and 20-10 during the first half before the Huskies rallied to tie the game at halftime. Gannon later forced overtime before Bloomsburg scored the deciding touchdown in the extra period.

The Golden Knights enter Saturday at 0-3 following road contests at Davenport and Shepherd and last week's home opener against Bloomsburg.

Kickoff against Lock Haven is scheduled for 1 p.m. at McConnell Family Stadium.
