Gannon Athletics Weekly Preview: March 23–29

Gannon Athletics returns to action this week with men's basketball Elite Eight play, the baseball home opener, and Senior Day for women's lacrosse, highlighting a full slate of competition.

Men's and Women's Golf
Head coach Scott Stano's men's and women's golf teams will compete in the Vulcan Fire Classic on Monday, March 23, through Tuesday, March 24.

The men's team heads into the final day sitting sixth out of 12 teams. Matti Parrini shot an even-par 72, while Giovanni DeLorenzi is currently in fourth place individually.

On the women's side, Gannon sits in first place out of 11 teams heading into the final round. Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) and Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) are both tied for fourth, as the Golden Knights hold a 14-shot lead as a team.

Baseball
Head coach DJ Cannon's Golden Knights travel to Ashland for a non-conference nine-inning matchup on Tuesday, March 24 at 3:00 p.m.

Gannon will then return home to host Clarion for a PSAC doubleheader on Friday, March 27, at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at McConnell Family Stadium. The Golden Knights wrap up the weekend on the road at Clarion on Saturday, March 28 for another doubleheader beginning at
1:00 p.m.

Men's Basketball
Coming off the program's second regional title in the last three years, Gannon continues its NCAA Tournament run on Wednesday, March 25, with a matchup against No. 6 seed Michigan Tech at 12:00 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Golden Knights earned the No. 6 seed and will look to continue their postseason run as they advance through the national bracket.

The winner will advance to face either No. 2 seed Cal State East Bay or No. 7 seed Oklahoma Baptist on Friday, March 27, at 6:00 p.m. at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pa. 

Softball
Gannon will play three PSAC doubleheaders this week after splitting its home-opening doubleheader against Clarion last Saturday.

The Golden Knights will host Edinboro on Wednesday, March 25, at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at McConnell Family Stadium. Gannon will then hit the road for a conference doubleheader at Indiana (Pa.) on Friday, March 27, beginning at 2:00 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, March 28, starting at 1:00 p.m.

Women's Lacrosse
The Golden Knights will hit the road to take on PSAC opponent IUP on Wednesday, March 25, at 3:00 p.m.

Gannon will then return home to host Lock Haven on Saturday, March 28, at 12:00 p.m. at McConnell Family Stadium.

The game will serve as Senior Day, with festivities set to begin before the start of the contest.

Women's Water Polo
Coming off a dominant Senior Day victory over Penn State Behrend, the Golden Knights will hit the road for a matchup at Grove City on Wednesday, March 25, at 4:45 p.m.

Gannon will then travel to Salem for a WWPA conference weekend. The Golden Knights open play on Friday, March 27, at 6:00 p.m. against Salem, followed by matchups on Saturday, March 28, against McKendree (9:00 a.m.) and Mercyhurst (3:30 p.m.).

Gannon will wrap up the weekend on Sunday, March 29, against Saint Francis at 10:30 a.m.

Competitive Cheer & Dance
Gannon will host its annual Road to Daytona Showcase on Sunday, March 29, at 1:00 p.m. inside the Highmark Events Center. The event will serve as Senior Day as the Golden Knights prepare for the NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer & Dance Championships in Daytona, Florida, with festivities set to begin prior to the start of the event.

Acrobatics & Tumbling
In a key matchup, the No. 9 Golden Knights will hit the road to take on No. 6 Fairmont State on Sunday, March 29 at 4:00 p.m. NCATA midseason rankings will be announced on Wednesday, with speculation that Gannon could move up a few spots.

Head coach Addy Womeldorph's Golden Knights finished the home portion of their schedule with a perfect 4-0 record and currently sit at 5-2 on the season. Gannon owns wins over No. 8 Mary Hardin-Baylor, No. 7 Duquesne, and No. 12 Glenville State this season.
