THE GANNON-EAST STROUDSBURG MATCHUP

Sunday's PSAC Championship marks the second meeting between Gannon and East Stroudsburg this season and a rematch of the 2017 conference championship.

The Golden Knights earned a 5-2 victory over the Warriors on Aug. 30 at McConnell Family Stadium, scoring four goals in the opening half before adding another late in the contest.

Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil/Objetivo Aquarius) opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Mario Lindo (Madrid, Spain/IES Juan Gris), Manuel Pereyra (Puebla, Mexico/Maria Luisa Pacheco) and Ryko Bodurov (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) each found the back of the net to give Gannon a 4-0 halftime advantage.

East Stroudsburg responded with second-half goals from Owen Rennie and Bat-Od Buman-Uchral before David Ivascu (Vaughan, Ontario/St. Elizabeth Catholic) scored in the 79th minute to secure the victory.

Gannon finished that contest with a 21-14 advantage in shots, including a 15-6 edge in shots on goal.

Sunday also marks the first postseason meeting between the programs since the 2017 PSAC Championship, when East Stroudsburg defeated Gannon 1-0 to capture the conference title.

The Golden Knights lead the all-time series 12-8-2 and will look to earn another victory over the Warriors while competing for their second consecutive PSAC Tournament championship.

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's soccer team looks to defend its conference championship Sunday afternoon when the Golden Knights travel to East Stroudsburg to face the Warriors in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Head coach Billy Colton's Golden Knights enter the championship at 13-3-3 overall after earning consecutive 2-1 victories over Shepherd and Seton Hill in the opening two rounds of the tournament.

Gannon advanced to Sunday's final following a comeback victory over Seton Hill in Wednesday's semifinal at McConnell Family Stadium.

The Golden Knights trailed 1-0 at halftime before David Ivascu (Vaughan, Ontario/St. Elizabeth Catholic) scored his eighth goal of the season in the 61st minute off assists from Mathias Asphjell (Oslo, Norway/lambertseter vgs) and Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil/Objetivo Aquarius).

With the match tied 1-1, Jensen Peake (Staffordshire, England/Friary) converted a penalty kick at 75:03 to give Gannon the lead for good. The goal marked Peake's second of the season and sent the Golden Knights back to the conference championship.

Gannon finished with a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal, including 12 total attempts during the second half, while Ivan Capurro (Uruguay/Escola Ginebró) made four saves to secure the victory.

The Golden Knights entered postseason play as the PSAC West regular-season champions for the fourth consecutive year, finishing conference play at 7-2-1 and earning the division's No. 1 seed.

Gannon also enters Sunday's matchup as the defending PSAC Tournament champion after capturing the program's first conference tournament title in 2025. The Golden Knights defeated Millersville 2-1 in last year's championship before advancing to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.

East Stroudsburg enters the championship at 9-6-5 overall after making an impressive postseason run as the No. 3 seed from the PSAC East.

The Warriors opened the tournament with a 1-0 road victory over Lock Haven on Nov. 1. Jeter Cardona scored the game's only goal, giving East Stroudsburg its first postseason victory in four years.

East Stroudsburg followed with another 1-0 victory Wednesday, upsetting top-seeded Millersville on the road.

With the match scoreless late in the second half, Owen Rennie converted a penalty kick with approximately two minutes remaining to lift the Warriors into the conference championship for the first time since 2017.

Goalkeeper Phil Sykes recorded his seventh shutout of the season in the victory, continuing a strong postseason defensive performance for East Stroudsburg.

Sunday's winner will capture the PSAC Tournament championship and earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division II Tournament.
