ERIE, PA - Elisa Moliner (Zaragoza, Spain/IES Francisco de Goya) (Women's Swimming) &
Kuba Loboda (Lublin, Poland) (Men's Swimming) have been named the Gannon Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of January 19th. Both contributed to dominant team performances on Saturday, when both the men's and women's teams swept Oberlin and Malone in their final home meet of the regular season.
Moliner was dominant in the long distance races on Saturday. The freshman took command of the 1000 yard freestyle, taking first with a time of 10:51.57, nearly 20 seconds better than her seed time. She was more than 45 seconds faster than the next best finisher. In the 500 yard freestyle, it was more of the same for the native of Spain. Moliner won the event with a time of 5:18.48.
Loboda was equally as fantastic on the men's side. The junior set a pool record in the 100 yard butterfly, clocking in at 48.73. He was the only swimmer in the field to go sub-50 seconds on Saturday. Loboda would follow up the victory by capturing the win in the 100 breaststroke, earning a time of 57.22 and just edging out senior teammate
Malachi Boyle (Knoxville, Tenn./Home Life Academy) by three tenths of a second.
