Men's Soccer Looks for Continued Success vs. Demanding Schedule in 2025

ERIE, Pa.Billy Colton's tenure as the Gannon men's soccer coach has been marked by great success. It's also featured a demanding schedule and as Colton enters his seventh year at the helm he has once again assembled a challenging schedule.
Gannon qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament for the fourth time in five years, ending the season with a 14-4-3 record while winning the PSAC West regular season title. Colton's Golden Knights have won 61 games over the last four years and 82 matches in his six years at the helm.

"We looked to make our schedule as challenging as possible again," Colton pointed out. "This has helped us the last few years with our strength of schedule and being able to earn an at large bid for the NCAA tournament. Six of the seven teams that we face in our out of conference schedule, all made their conference tournament. We also only have 7 home games with 10 games being on the road so we will be racking up some miles."

Gannon's 16-match regular schedule begins with two of those road matches with trips to Lake Erie and East Stroudsburg. Gannon debuts at the Storm on Thursday, September 4. Lake Erie was 9-7-3 a year ago and competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

The East Stroudsburg match, set for Sunday, September 7, is the first of two against a pair of the top teams in the PSAC East. The Warriors finished at 8-4-5 last year.

The Golden Knights debut at McConnell Family Stadium on Friday, September 12 hosting Ashland as part of Homecoming Weekend. The Eagles finished at 10-7-1 last year and are also in the GMAC.

For the second year in a row Gannon and Post will meet at a neutral site, once again Lock Haven. Post, members of the CACC, finished 16th in Division II last year with a 13-5-5 record and like Gannon played in the NCAA Tournament. A year ago Gannon prevailed 4-0. The rematch is set for Tuesday, September 16.

Gannon returns home on Saturday, September 20 hosting West Chester (8-7-4) in a rematch of last year's PSAC Semifinals. The Golden Knights reached the PSAC Championship game with a 1-0 win. The Golden Rams finished third in the PSAC East a year ago.

Three of Gannon's next four games and six of the next eight are on the road, beginning with the long journey to Adelphi. The Panthers, members of the Northeast-10, were 9-6-4 last year and reached the NE10 semifinals. They posted a 3-1 win at Gannon in last year's meeting.

PSAC West action begins on Wednesday, October 1 with the Golden Knights hosting Seton Hill. The Griffins were 10-5-4 in 2024, tying Gannon twice in the regular season.

Gannon follows with back-to-back road games at Pitt-Johnstown (3-13-1) on Saturday, October 4 and at Slippery Rock on Wednesday, October 8. SRU was second in the Western Division in 2024 and finished at 9-4-5, including a 1-1 tie with Gannon. The Golden Knights won the second meeting 3-1.

Lock Haven (8-8-1) visits McConnell Family Stadium on Saturday, October 11 for Gannon's fourth straight PSAC West match before the Golden Knights play their last non-conference game at D'Youville (5-8-4) on Wednesday, October 15.

The D'Youville match is the first of three straight away matches before the regular season concludes with three consecutive home contests. Gannon plays at California (Pa.) (5-8-4) on Saturday, October 18 then plays for the last time on the road at Seton Hill on Wednesday, October 22.

Pitt-Johnstown (Saturday, October 25), Slippery Rock (Wednesday, October 29), and California (Pa.) (Thursday, November 6) wrap up the regular season, all at McConnell Family Stadium.

The PSAC Tournament gets underway on Monday, November 10. The highest remaining Western Division seed will host the PSAC Final Four with the finals set for Friday, November 14 and the championship match on Sunday, November 16.
