Women's Soccer Announces 2025 Schedule

Golden Knights to play nine games at home

ERIE, Pa. – Under long-time head coach Colin Petersen the Gannon women's soccer team has enjoyed great success. That has been particularly the case the last four years with trips to the NCAA Tournament each year and an average of 15 wins a year.

As the 2025 season approaches the Golden Knights return a great deal of firepower and figure to again challenge for a berth in the postseason. Gannon comes off a 16-2-4 finish a year ago, capturing the PSAC West regular season title with a 10-0-4 record. But the elusive PSAC championship once again eluded the Golden Knights with Gannon losing to Kutztown in the semifinals after reaching the championship game the previous two years.

Undaunted, Petersen's squad went on to defeat Frostburg State in the NCAA Atlantic Regional, followed by gaining a bit of revenge with a 3-2 win over Kutztown. Gannon's run finally came to an end with a 1-0 loss to Shepherd in the Atlantic Regional Championship match.

Petersen has released his 2025 schedule and the Golden Knights figure to face plenty of challenges ahead with visions of a fifth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

"Our schedule for this year is going to be a terrific challenge," related Petersen. "Starting with a tough opening two away games against Charleston and Concord. I still believe that the PSAC is the toughest conference and so we are expecting every team to be a hard fought battle as per usual…there is no easy game. We are excited to have added Adelphi University. This significantly adds to our strength of schedule and we know we have to be at the top of our game for every contest!"

The 2025 gets underway with a familiar look as the Golden Knights will play Mountain East Conference programs Charleston (WV) and Concord in their first two matches for the fourth straight year. As always that's a tough way to get started against two of the top teams in the Mountain East Conference.

After hosting the two schools a year ago Gannon travels to West Virginia to play twice in the first three days.  The lidlifter is a Thursday, September 4 match at Charleston (WV). The Golden Eagles were 16-6-0 a year ago. Gannon opened the 2024 campaign with a 3-1 win over Charleston. The Golden Eagles went on to reach the MEC Championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Atlantic Regional.

Two days later on Saturday, September 6 the Golden Knights play at Concord. Gannon defeated the Mountain Lions 1-0 a year ago, also in the second match of the season. Concord would end the year at 11-7-1.

Gannon debuts at McConnell Family Stadium on Saturday, September 13 opening PSAC West against California (Pa.) (4-12-2) on Homecoming Weekend. That's followed by a match against Roberts Wesleyan (5-10-1) on Tuesday, September 16. It's the first meeting between the two teams since 2021.

After back-to-back home matches Gannon plays three straight games on the road, all PSAC West contests. The stretch begins on Saturday, September 20 at Seton Hill (5-6-6), followed by a Wednesday, September 24 date at rival Edinboro. The Fighting Scots were 5-7-4 a year ago. The road swing concludes on Saturday, September 24 with the third road match in eight days, playing at Pitt-Johnstown (8-7-2).

The first half of PSAC divisional play concludes with two home matches and an away game. Facing the upper echelon of the Western Division, back-to-back home games begin against Slippery Rock (9-6-4) on Wednesday, October 1. A strong Indiana (Pa.) team that was 11-3-4 in 2024 invades McConnell Family Stadium on Saturday, October 4. The first half comes to a close at Clarion (2-14-1) on Wednesday, October 8.

Gannon will face its Western Division rivals for a second time in the second half of divisional play. In addition, Petersen arranged a match with Adelphi on Wednesday, October 12 in a rematch of the 2023 Elite Eight contest won by Adelphi 1-0. The Panthers were 12-4-1 last year and finished 17th in the final United Soccer Coaches Top 25. They lost in the NE10 Conference Championship match and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year.

The regular season wraps up on Wednesday, November 5. The first round of the PSAC Tournament gets underway on Saturday, November 8 with the PSAC Championship game set for Sunday, November 16. The highest remaining Eastern Division seed will host the Final Four.
