Gannon Announces 2025 Football Schedule

Golden Knights face "brutally tough schedule"

ERIE, Pa. – Gannon University head football coach Erik Raeburn today announced the 2025 football schedule. Raeburn will begin his fifth year at the helm this fall.

The 2025 campaign gets underway on Saturday, August 30 as the Golden Knights host Davenport. Kickoff at McConnell Family Stadium is 12 noon. The Davenport game is the first of six home games at McConnell Family Stadium and the first of two straight against GLIAC teams to open the season.

"We play a brutally tough schedule," admitted Raeburn. "For the second straight year, we will play all four playoff teams from the PSAC. Add two excellent programs from the GLIAC and you have an incredibly challenging test for our 2025 team."

Davenport finished the 2024 season with a 7-4 record. The Panthers are one of seven teams on Gannon's schedule with a winning record a year ago. The Golden Knights and Davenport last met in the spring of 2021 as part of the COVID-delayed season. In fact they played twice with Davenport winning both games by scores of 30-22 and 37-22. Those are the only two times the teams have met.

Gannon's second game is a meeting at former GLIAC foe Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, September 6. The two teams last met in 2007 with the Cardinals winning 49-7 but later having to forfeit the victory. That technically leaves the series at one game apiece. SVSU was also 7-4 a year ago.

The next two games are PSAC crossover games with both Eastern Division opponents reaching the NCAA Playoffs a year ago. On Saturday, September 13 the Golden Knights host East Stroudsburg with a special kickoff time of 1:00 p.m. as Gannon celebrates Homecoming. The Warriors finished at 10-2 a year ago, losing to California (Pa.) in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs. ESU defeated Gannon 24-7 last season and owns a 4-2 lead in the all-time series.

Gannon plays at Eastern Division champion Kutztown on Saturday, September 20. The Golden Bears were 11-1 a year ago, winning their second straight PSAC championship before losing in overtime to Slippery Rock in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs. Kutztown holds a 4-2 lead in the all-time series, including a 37-14 victory last year.

The Golden Knights have a bye on September 27 when divisional play begins. Gannon begins Western Division action the following week hosting Slippery Rock on Saturday, October 4. It's the first of back-to-back home games to start October.

The Slippery Rock game marks the fifth straight opponent with seven-or-more wins and the third consecutive with 10-or-more. The Rock was 12-2 last year making an impressive run in the NCAA Playoffs before finally losing to eventual national champion Ferris State in the national semifinals. Slippery Rock defeated Gannon 35-17 in 2024 and holds a 13-6 advantage in the all-time series.

Clarion visits McConnell Family Stadium on Saturday, October 11. The Golden Eagles were 3-8 last year. Gannon holds a 9-7 lead in the all-time series after winning at Clarion 34-28 last year.

Gannon travels to Seton Hill (3-8) on Saturday, October 18. The Golden Knights handed the Griffins a 23-17 defeat in last year's meeting and now owns a 10-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Gannon renews its rivalry with Edinboro on Saturday, October 25. The Fighting Scots finished at 3-8 in 2024, including a 25-21 loss to the Golden Knights. That leaves Edinboro with a 10-8 lead in the all-time series.

November begins with a trip to Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday, November 1. The Crimson Hawks were 7-3 last year, including a 35-7 win over the Golden Knights as IUP now leads the all-time series 11-5.

The Golden Knights play the final time at McConnell Family Stadium in 2025 on Saturday, November 8. California (Pa.) represents the fourth team with 10-or-more wins on the schedule and the fourth to play in the NCAA Playoffs. The Vulcans were 10-3 a year ago, winning twice in the postseason before losing to Slippery Rock in the Super Region One championship. Cal defeated Gannon 49-7 along the way and leads the all-time series 13-3.

The 2025 season concludes on Saturday, November 15. The Golden Knights are scheduled to play at Lock Haven depending on who is playing in the PSAC Championship game that day. The Bald Eagles finished 5-6 in 2024 after ending the year with a 21-13 win at Gannon. Gannon holds a 6-3 lead in the series.
