ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon baseball team returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 18 with a non-conference game at D'Youville. The two teams will play a single nine-inning game with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m. at Sal Maglie Stadium in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

The Golden Knights come off a difficult four-game series at Grand Valley State this past weekend. Gannon lost all four games to the Lakers with two by a run. In fact, while the Golden Knights come in with a 5-9 record five of those losses have been by a run with all five coming in the opponent's last at bat. They look to snap a five-game losing streak against the Saints.

After a tough, injury-filled 2024 campaign that saw the Golden Knights win just 11 games head coach DJ Cannon has retooled his lineup with transfers and freshmen.

Wes Parker (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) got a late start due to an injury but has made up for lost time in nine games. The transfer from Toledo is hitting .378 with 4 HRs and 14 RBIs in just 37 at bats.

While not a newcomer, Ian Soto (Florida, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristiana de Manati) has been an exciting addition to the lineup. After serving as a relief pitcher a year ago the redshirt junior has emerged as the team's designated hitter. He is hitting .340 with a home run and 12 RBIs.

Freshman shortstop Hunter Troiano (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seneca Valley) is next at .333 with a homer and 13 RBIs. Sophomore catcher Drew Stangelo (Uniontown, Ohio/North Canton Hoover) is hitting .300.

Last year's starting shortstop, Alex Bemis (Monroe, Ohio/Monroe), has moved to the outfield. The sophomore owns a .269 average and has stolen six bases. Newcomer Frank Kula (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands), a transfer from Rhode Island, has a team-high nine stolen bases.

D'Youville owns a deceiving 3-15 record. The Saints have lost ten games to nationally-ranked teams including four straight to No. 25 Seton Hill over the weekend. They have lost eight straight games.

NEXT FOR THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Gannon begins PSAC West action on Friday, March 21 hosting Clarion. The twinbill gets underway at 1:00 p.m. Then the two teams head to Clarion for the second doubleheader on Saturday, March 22.
