Moore, Respecki Named Gannon Student-Athletes of the Week

ERIE, Pa. Damario Moore (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North), a member of the football team, and women's soccer player Brooklyn Respecki (McKean, Pa./General McLane) have been selected as the Gannon University Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of October 5. This marks the fifth week honoring Gannon's Student-Athlete of the Week and encompasses events through Sunday.

A diminutive freshman Moore played a big role in Gannon's 38-35 upset of No. 14/16 Slippery Rock. The 5-foot-8 wide receiver accounted for a pair of touchdowns as Gannon snapped a 10-game losing streak to Slippery Rock while winning for the first time this season.

The first six-pointer came on an 89-yard kickoff return midway through the first quarter. It was the first kickoff return for a touchdown by a Golden Knight since 2013. In addition it was the second-longest kickoff return in school history.

Moore later pulled Gannon even at 28-28 late in the second quarter with a 38-yard touchdown reception. He ended the day returning four kicks for 158 yards, the fourth-highest single-game total. He added three receptions for 46 yards and ran the ball four times for 28 yards. All told he had 232 all-purpose yards.

Respecki has keyed the Gannon women's soccer team to an 8-0-1 start as the Golden Knights have climbed to sixth in Division II. The junior forward played a role in three of Gannon's four goals this week as Gannon handed Slippery Rock a 3-0 defeat and tied Indiana (Pa.) 1-1. She has accounted for at least one point in each of the last six matches and eight of the nine contests this season.

Respecki assisted on two goals in the win over Slippery Rock. Her shot from 20 yards out on Saturday night in the 76th minute over the IUP goalie's head gave the Golden Knights a 1-1 tie. She leads Gannon with eight goals and six assists for 22 points.

She now has 33 career goals, one shy of fourth place at Gannon, and her 96 career points rank fourth all-time.
