ERIE, Pa. – Gannon University head football coach Erik Raeburn has announced the addition of Matt Evans to the Golden Knights coaching staff. Evans will serve as Gannon's wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator, bringing more than a decade of coaching experience at the NCAA Division II and Division III levels to Erie.

Evans joins the Golden Knights after spending the 2025 season as quarterbacks coach at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. While with the Rams, he assisted in pass game coordination, weekly game planning, opponent scouting, film breakdown and quarterback development.

He also coordinated weekly pass game installations, created offensive cutups and scouting reports, and oversaw the academic progress of the team's quarterbacks.

"Matt brings a ton of experience working with offensive skill positions and special teams," said Raeburn. "I really believe our wide receivers will benefit from his expertise in the passing game."

Prior to Cornell, Evans spent two seasons at Norwich University in Northfield, Vt., serving as quarterbacks coach during the 2024 season after coaching the Cadets' wide receivers in 2023. During his tenure, he helped mentor First Team All-Conference wide receiver Trevor Chase while assisting with pass game coordination, practice planning, opponent scouting, film breakdown and game-day operations.

Before arriving at Norwich, Evans spent five seasons at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind., where he held multiple coaching responsibilities, including special teams coordinator, wide receivers and tight ends coach, and running backs and tight ends coach.

During the 2021 season, Rose-Hulman led the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) in total offense, passing offense and scoring offense while ranking among the top 20 nationally in each category.

The Engineers also established single-season program records for points scored (452), touchdowns (62), touchdown passes (33) and all-purpose yards (6,505).

Throughout his time at Rose-Hulman, Evans helped develop numerous standout student-athletes, including HCAC Offensive Player of the Year Noah Thomas, HCAC Special Teams Player of the Year Jailen Hobbs, Second Team All-American running back Shane Welshans and several all-conference selections across multiple position groups.

Evans previously spent two seasons at Walsh University as an offensive graduate assistant. He coached running backs during the 2016 season after assisting with the wide receivers in 2015 while contributing to pass game coordination, practice planning, film breakdown and opponent scouting. He also served as the program's video coordinator, overseeing film editing and creating position-specific cutups.

His collegiate coaching career began at Ohio Dominican University, where he served as assistant director of football operations and specialists coach.

In that role, Evans assisted with the Panthers' day-to-day football operations, recruiting events, team travel, video operations and practice organization while helping mentor First Team All-American kicker Brent Wahle.

Evans earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Industry from The Ohio State University in 2014.
