Gannon Athletics on Monday announced the hiring of Mike Hallett as the new Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line coach for the football program.
Hallett brings nearly three decades of collegiate coaching experience to Erie, including 10 seasons at the University of Toledo where he helped build one of the Mid-American Conference's most productive offenses.
"Mike has a strong background and proven success in collegiate football, and we are excited for him to join our staff and share his expertise with our student-athletes" said Director of Athletics Meghan Morphy. "Beyond the field, Mike is highly regarded as a committed leader and engaged member of his campus and the greater communities. We look forward to welcoming Mike to Gannon and our football program."
"I have known Mike for more than 30 years, going back as far as being college teammates. I know he is an excellent person and coach", said Head Coach Erik Raeburn. "His experience as a head coach and as a DI Offensive Coordinator will make a positive impact on our program."
During his tenure with the Rockets, Hallett played a key role in multiple championship-caliber seasons, including MAC titles in 2022, 2017 and back-to-back MAC Championship Game appearances. Toledo consistently ranked among the league leaders in scoring and total offense under his guidance, highlighted by an 11-game winning streak in 2023 and an 8-5 campaign in 2024 that featured wins over Power Four opponents Mississippi State and Pittsburgh.
Hallett's offensive lines were a cornerstone of that success, routinely ranking among the best in the conference and nationally in sacks allowed while producing numerous All-MAC selections. His units helped develop standout skill players, including MAC Offensive Player of the Year Peny Boone and league MVP quarterback Dequan Finn.
"I'm excited to be joining Gannon University and coach Erik Raeburn", said Hallett. "Erik and I date back to our playing days at Mount Union and his production as a coach is amazing! You win with people, and everyone I have encountered at Gannon has been first class! My wife, Brooke and I are excited to dive into our lives in Erie."
Prior to Toledo, Hallett served as head coach at Heidelberg (2007–15), where he transformed the program into a contender, highlighted by a 9-2 season and the program's first NCAA Playoff appearance. He also held head coaching and offensive coordinator roles at Thomas More.
A former All-American offensive lineman at Mount Union, Hallett was the Division III Lineman of the Year in 1993 and a member of a national championship team. He was inducted into the Mount Union Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
