Pool Scores Twice to Lead Gannon to 4-0 Win over Post

Golden Knights clip Eagles at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Maybe it was the neutral field. Maybe it was the rainy weather. Or possibly James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) breaking out on offense. Whatever the case, Gannon returned to action on Wednesday following a lackluster showing in a 3-1 loss to Adelphi last week and handed Post a 4-0 defeat. The match took place at Lock Haven's Hubert Jack Stadium.

Gannon improved to 4-2-0 on the season while the Eagles saw their two-game winning streak snapped while falling to 3-3-1. It was the first meeting between the two teams, with Post members of the CCAC.

The Golden Knights definitely played with more vigor in their first contest since September 17. The high-powered attack scored four-or-more goals for the fourth time and the defense recorded its third shutout. Gannon has outscored the opposition 18-2 in its four wins and has been outscored 4-1 in the two losses.

Pool played a major role after contributing just two assists in the first five matches. The native of England had two goals and an assist. A year ago he tied for the PSAC and Gannon lead with 17 goals and was a first team D2CCA Division II All-American.

How it Happened:
  • With a heavy rain coming down at times neither team was able to find the back of the net until late in the first half. That's when Shota Toyama (Kanagawa, Japan/Tama) took touch passes from Herman Aanberg (Hamar, Norway/Wang Toppidrett Oslo) and James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) and fired a shot under a Post defender into the far left corner of the Post goal from almost 20 yards out at 43:36 for a 1-0 lead.
  • Gannon made it three goals in just seven with back-to-back second-half goals just a minute apart. The first came by James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) at 49:25 off a deflection by an Eagles' defender. He gathered in the ball and blasted a shot high into the middle of the net for a 2-0 lead. It was Pool's first goal of the season after tying for the team lead with 17 a year ago.
  • The lead grew to 3-0 at 50:19 when Aanberg's shot from the far right wing hit the crossbar and Alander Soares (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Escola Estadual de Ensino Medio Santa Catarina) was right in front of the net to gather it in. His shot hit the left bar and rolled in.
  • Gannon kept the pressure on Post and eventually made it 4-0 on Pool's second goal of the match at 65:30. Lauvstad was credited with the assist after his shot was blocked by the Post goalkeeper but rolled to Pool, who found the right corner of the goal.
By the Numbers:
  • The statistical numbers were as much in Gannon's favor as the final score. The Golden Knights held a 20-5 advantage in shots, with a 10-3 edge at the half and 10-2 over the final 45 minutes. Gannon led 10-2 in shots on goal. The Golden Knights also had 10 corners to seven for Post.
  • Andres Moraes picked up his second shutout in goal as a Golden Knight thanks to a pair of saves.
  • James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) finished with two goals and an assist. Shota Toyama's (Kanagawa, Japan/Tama) goal was his third of the season while Alander Soares (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Escola Estadual de Ensino Medio Santa Catarina) now has two goals.
Next for the Golden Knights:
Gannon begins PSAC West action hosting Seton Hill on Saturday, September 28. The match gets underway at 3:00 p.m. at McConnell Family Stadium. It's an early season battle between the top two teams in the PSAC West preseason poll, with Gannon the preseason favorite and the Griffins second. Seton Hill owns a 4-1-1 record.
