ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's water polo team will play four times this weekend as it begins the second week of competition in the 2024 season. The Golden Knights travel to Morgantown, W.Va. to play in the Salem Open at Mylan Park.
 
The Golden Knights enjoyed a successful debut while playing last week in the Navy Open. They finished at 2-1 and will face the two teams they defeated at the Navy Open on Saturday on the opening day of the Salem Open.
 
Gannon plays Mount St, Mary's in its opening match at 2:40 p.m., then returns to the pool at 6:40 p.m. with a match vs. John Hopkins. Head coach Zarko Sadikovic's team ended the Navy Open with a 14-12 victory over Mount St. Mary's the first win over the Mounties since 2021. They opened the tournament with a 19-18 victory over Johns Hopkins.
 
Sunday finds the Golden Knights opening day two vs. the University of Toronto at 9:20 a.m. They wrap up play with a match vs. LIU at 1:20 p.m.

Sadikovic is a former standout for the Golden Knights who led his alma mater to a 12-10 record in his first season at the helm. His 2024 squad features a combination of veterans and exciting newcomers.
 
Key Returnees:
Alexandros Kotskar (Voula, Greece/Athinaiki Agogh): the junior from Greece concluded his sophomore season with a school-record 99 goals, adding 30 assists for 129 points. He was named a 2023 ACWPC Division II First Team All-American. As a freshman Kotskar scored a team-high 70 goals, adding 23 assists for 93 points. He jumped out to a fast start with six goals in the win over Johns Hopkins and has eight total after three matches.
 
Marco Alvaro: after previously sharing time in goal Alvaro took over as the starter a year ago and enjoyed an outstanding season. The senior from Spain finished with a 12.87 GAA and a .489 save percentage. He started all three matches in the Navy Open.
 
Nikiforos Liantziris (Athens, Greece): a freshman from Athens, Greece, Liantziris paced the win over Mount St. Mary's with a team-high six goals. After three contests he leads the Golden Knights with nine goals.
 
Petar Markovic (Belgrade, Serbia): another newcomer from Belgrade, Serbia, Markovic previously played at Sierra College before joining the Golden Knights. He has scored eight goals, including four against Johns Hopkins.
