Men’s Golf, Women’s Swimming & Diving Teams Earn PSAC Top Team GPA Awards

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) today completed its review of academic success for its members for the 2023-24 season with Gannon's student-athletes once again shining.

On Monday 283 Golden Knights (148 women, 135 men) were named PSAC Scholar-Athletes. Former Golden Knight standout Samantha Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) was named the PSAC's Pete Nevins Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Tuesday.

Now the third of three days of academic awards finds the PSAC releasing its Top Team GPA Awards for the 2023-24 academic year. The Top Team GPA Awards are in their 13th year of existence and are issued across 21 PSAC-sponsored sports. The awards, released at the conclusion of every academic year, honor the teams with the top cumulative team grade point average in each of the sponsored sports within the PSAC.

Gannon had the PSAC-high GPA in two sports – men's golf and women's swimming. The men's golf team compiled a GPA of 3.679 as ten golfers were honored as PSAC Scholar-Athletes. It's the second straight year Gannon has had the top team GPA in men's golf. The women's swimming & diving team had 23 team members earn Scholar-Athlete honors and finished with a 3.680 team GPA.

Among other Gannon programs, women's cross country had a 3.746 GPA, with women's golf (3.653), women's soccer (3.573), men's cross country (3.554), softball (3.524), men's swimming (3.460), volleyball (3.442), women's basketball (3.434), women's lacrosse (3.398), baseball (3.386), men's soccer (3.315), and men's basketball (3.055) also above a 3.00 GPA.

Gannon finished with an overall program GPA of 3.412, good for fourth in the PSAC. Gannon offered sports in 16 of the 21 teams graded by the PSAC, with 14 of the 16 maintaining a GPA of over 3.00.

Gannon has now had at least two teams recognized for the top team GPA in all 13 years the PSAC has honored top team GPA's. That includes a high of seven teams in 2017-18.

In addition, this year's program cumulative GPA of 3.412 is the 13th straight season with an overall GPA of 3.2 or better, every year of the program's existence. In six of the last seven years Gannon student-athletes have posted a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or better. In 2018-19 the GPA was 3.398.
