High-Scoring Guard Latest Addition to Gannon Roster

ERIE, Pa. – Gannon men's basketball coach Easton Bazzoli has announced the addition of another recruit for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Markus Robinson will fit right in with Gannon's high-scoring philosophy as one of the top all-time scorers in high school history.

A 6'3" guard, Robinson played most recently at Blue Ridge School. Prep school in St. George, Va. He is a native of Rochester, N.Y. and previously played at Finney High School in the Rochester area and then Veritas Collegiate Academy in Virginia.

All told, Robinson scored 3,619 points throughout his high school career including averaging 43.5 ppg. in the 2019-20 season for Finney. He is in the top 60 in all-time scoring for high school basketball according to MaxPreps.

"I am really excited about the addition of Markus Robinson," related Bazzoli. "Markus has had a unique high school career with a lot of success specifically coming from his ability to score the basketball. More than this, Markus is a high character competitor that Gannon fans will love watching and rooting for. We cannot wait to get Markus on campus."

Robinson began his high school playing career with a bang at Finney High School. In 2018-19 he averaged 22.6 ppg. for the varsity team as an eighth grader. A year later as a freshman he averaged 43.5 ppg. and was accorded second team Class D All-State honors. He scored an incredible 958 points in 22 games while finishing second nationally in scoring. He broke the 50-point barrier seven times with a high of 65 points.

During a COVID-shortened sophomore season in 2020-21, Robinson averaged 40.4 in 16 games before transferring to Veritas Collegiate Academy in Chesapeake, Va. to play for his AAU coach Puncho McGhee. In his three seasons at Finney Robinson was a two-time Private-Parochial League Player of the Year while scoring 2,250 points. He became just the 10th player in Section V boys basketball history to score 2,000 points in his varsity career, doing so in three years.

Robinson was far from done filling up the basket. Stepping up the level of competition, he averaged 33.1 ppg. in 2021-22 for Veritas, scoring 861 points. In the process he became the 251st high school basketball player in history to break the 3,000-point career mark. He proved he was much more than a scorer while leading the Spartans to a 21-6 record, averaging 5.9 ppg. with 54 assists and 66 steals.

Robinson played the last two seasons for a talent-filled Blue Ridge High School team, a prep school that posted a 24-11 record both seasons. In 2022-23 he averaged 9.9 ppg. and 3.0 rpg. followed by 8.6 ppg. and 3.3 rpg. this past season.

Blue Ridge head coach Cade Lemcke agrees with Bazzoli that the Gannon system is meant for Robinson. "Gannon is a great fit for Markus," he noted.
"Their tradition and especially the momentum Coach Bazzoli and his staff have right now, this is an exciting time to be a Golden Knight. Markus' ability to score the basketball will allow him to fit in quickly and hopefully add value as the team works to make another run in the tournament."

Now Robinson brings his prolific scoring talents to Gannon looking to continue evolving as a complete player under Bazzoli. "The reason I chose Gannon is because of the winners' mentality and the opportunity it will give me to show I am more than just a one-dimensional basketball player," Robinson pointed out. "I can play both on and off the ball, and the system will allow me to unleash the dog mentality within me."
