CARMEL, Ind. – The Gannon women's golf team moved into 11th place through the opening round of the NCAA Division II East Regional on Monday.
 
Freshman Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) led Gannon with a 7-over-par 79 in the first round at Prairie View Golf Club as coach Scott Stano's Golden Knights finished with a 327 total. Findlay took the first-round lead among 15 teams with a 299 score, followed by UIndy (300) and Ashland (309)
 
Junior Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) added an 8-over 80, followed by senior Sarah White (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) (83), junior Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) (85), and sophomore Zoey McClain (Erie, Pa./McDowell) (89).
 
Mateo is tied for 27th among a field of 81 players. She was outstanding on the front nine with a 1-over-par 37 that included two bridies. Saginaw Valley State's Brook Herbstreit took the lead in the individual race with a 2-under-par 70.
 
Petersen finished with three birdies as she shot a 2-over 38 on the front nine and a 42 on the back. White shot a 1-over 37 on the back nine, thanks to birdies on No. 13 and No. 17.
 
The three-day tournament will resume on Tuesday with 18 holes.
