Petersen Eagle Highlight of Day One at NC4K Classic

Golden Knights fifth out of 14 teams

GROVE CITY, Ohio – The Gannon women's golf team sits in fifth place after the first day of competition at the NC4K Classic. The NC4K traditionally features some of the top teams in the region and this year is no exception with seven regionally-ranked teams competing at Pinnacle Golf Club.

Indianapolis is the top team in the latest region rankings and is in first place after 18 holes with a aggregate score of 296, 8-over par. That is six strokes ahead of second-place Ashland, who is 14th in the region and finished with a 302 total. Saginaw Valley State is third at 20-over park 308, a stroke ahead of Ferris State, ranked seventh in the region. Ferris State is at 309 (+21), three strokes ahead of the Golden Knights. Ranked sixth in the region, Gannon finished day one at 312 (+24).

A total of 88 golfers teed off on Monday. At the end of 18 holes the lone golfer under par is Anci Dy of Indianapolis. Dy came in at 2-under 70. That is two strokes better than Gannon's Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole). The junior fashioned an even-par 72.

Petersen started on the fifth hole and finished the back nine with an impressive 35 that included an eagle and two birdies. All told she had four birdies, beginning with a birdie four on the par 5 ninth hole. She made it back-to-back birdies with a three on the par 4 10th hole. She would suffer a double bogey on the 12th hole but made it for it on the 497-yard, par-5 13th hole. With the hole playing downwind her drive left her with a 4-wood remaining to the green. The ball rolled to within three foot, and when she sank the putt, she had an eagle 3.

In fact, Petersen played the four par 5's on the course in 5-under after also birdieing the par-5 18th and par-5 second holes.

Freshman Victoria Colmenares (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/ICL Academy) came in at 4-over par 76, good for 12th place. Her round featured a birdie on the par-4 fourth hole and another birdie on the par-5 ninth.

The 14 teams will return to the course for a 10:00 a.m. shot gun start on Tuesday. That's an hour later than Monday's start when the round ended with the total eclipse.
