ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon baseball team will take a break from its PSAC schedule to play at D'Youville in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 9. The doubleheader gets underway at 1:00 p.m. at Bobo Field on the campus of Niagara University.

The two teams were originally scheduled to play two nine-inning games, one on April 2 at Gannon and the other on Tuesday. The April 2 date was postponed setting up Tuesday's doubleheader.

A young and patched up Gannon team earned a split with California (Pa.) in a four-game series over the weekend. The Golden Knights improved to 5-20 overall and 3-9 in the PSAC West thanks to a 3-2 win over the Vulcans in Sunday's nightcap. Cal entered the weekend tied for the lead in the Western Division.

D'Youville comes in with a 14-15 record and is 5-3 in the East Coast Conference after winning three of four games over the weekend against Queens (NY).

Gannon and D'Youville played a pair of games on March 2 in Cary, NC. The Saints won the first game 5-2 despite Gannon owning a 10-8 advantage in hits. In the nightcap D'Youville rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to win 5-4.

Sophomore outfielder/designated hitter Carson Wible (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) leads Gannon with a .325 average, two home runs and 18 RBIs. Sophomore Reece Colvin (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) has taken over in centerfield and owns a .289 average. Freshman shortstop Alex Bemis (Monroe, Ohio/Monroe) is hitting .280 with 11 doubles and is tied for the team lead with eight stolen bases.

Outfielder Kieran Gagnon (Mono, Ontario/Westside) returned to the lineup recently after missing time with an injury and already has eight stolen bases in just 40 at bats. He is hitting .250. Miguel Vega (Florida, Puerto Rico/Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy) adds seven stolen bases, giving the senior second baseman 68 for his career. That is tied for the school career record.

Head coach DJ Cannon will likely employ the bullpen extensively for the two games with a key four-game series coming up this weekend against crosstown rival Mercyhurst.
