Golden Knights Jump Out to 16-Stroke Lead after Day One of PSAC Women's Golf Championship

Ditte Petersen leads way with 71 for four-shot advantage

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Gannon's quest for a fifth straight PSAC women's golf title began on Friday with the first of three rounds. The 2024 PSAC Women's Golf Championship is being played at Berkleigh Golf Club in Kutztown, Pa. The Golden Knights ended the opening day of competition with a commanding 16-stroke lead.

The Golden Knights finished with an 18-over par total of 306. That's 16 strokes better than second-place Mercyhurst. The Lakers are at 34-over par 322, with Kutztown in third place with a 332 total, 44-over par. A total of 11 teams are competing along with three golfers from Shepherd.

Four Golden Knights are in the top seven with Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) holding a four-stroke lead after 18 holes in the individual standings. The junior was the lone golfer among the 57 competing golfers. She fashioned a one-under par 71 with a round that featured seven birdies. She was at 3-under 32 on the front nine. She added four birdies on an up-and-down back nine that featured just one par.

Kutztown's Brooke Graham is in second place at 3-over par 75, followed by Gannon's Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) at 77 (+5). Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor), a junior, is in a three-way tie for fourth place at 6-over par 78. Just six golfers broke 80.

Mateo struggled on the way out with a 41 but was at 1-under par 36 on the back nine for the 77. The freshman was 5-over par after four holes but was 1-over par over the final 14 holes. She birdied two of the last five holes. Martinez, meanwhile, added one birdie on her round.

Senior Sarah White (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) is in a two-way tie for seventh place after shooting an 80. Freshman Victoria Colmenares (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/ICL Academy) rounded out the Gannon contingent with an 11-over par 83, good for a tie for 13th.

The teams will return to the course on Saturday morning for the second round of 18 holes before concluding the 54-hole event on Sunday.
