Match Preview: Gannon Hosts Lock Haven in Saturday Morning Match

ERIE, Pa. – After facing a Seton Hill team that sits atop the PSAC West rankings on Wednesday the Gannon women's lacrosse team now squares off against another of the top teams in the division. The Golden Knights host Lock Haven on Saturday, April 20. The match gets underway at 11:00 a.m. at McConnell Family Stadium.

Gannon suffered an 18-4 loss on Wednesday at Seton Hill to drop to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in the Western Division. The Bald Eagles, meanwhile, saw their four-game winning streak snapped with a 22-9 loss at Slippery Rock. That left the Bald Eagles at 11-2 overall and 6-2 in the division, third behind Seton Hill and Slippery Rock.

This is the second meeting between the two teams. In the first meeting at Lock Haven on March 23 Gannon rallied back from three goals down in the fourth quarter to tie the match at 16-16 with six-and-a-half minutes remaining before the Bald Eagles scored the final three goals for a 19-16 win.
Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) had five goals and an assist for the Golden Knights with McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) adding three goals and four assists. Gabby Gunnip paced Lock Haven with six goals and an assist. Emma Williams contributed four goals and two assists.

Woodworth leads the Golden Knights in scoring with 43 points on 23 goals and 20 assists. She enjoyed one of the finest games of her stellar career recently against Edinboro, totaling three goals and eight assists for 11 points. She now has 137 career goals to move into 14th place in career goals.  

Stevens, a junior, leads the team with 32 goals, adding six assists, for 38 points. Madyson Schwartz (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) adds 24 goals and 3 assists for 27 points, while Charlie Hunter (Boston, N.Y./Hamburg) has 26 points on 19 goals and seven assists. Stevens went over 100 career goals earlier in the season while Schwartz, a graduate transfer, recently reached 100 career goals including four seasons at Chestnut Hill.

Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge) and Riley Finnegan (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) have each played eight matches in goal. Manning has a 15.03 GAA with 73 saves while Finnegan comes in at a 13.80 GAA with 39 saves. Finnegan was in goal at Seton hill and had ten saves.

Lock Haven had recently upset then-No. 23 Seton Hill 11-10 as part of its four-match winning streak. Gabby Gunnip ranks among the leading scorers in the PSAC with 43 goals and 18 assists for 61 points. Abby Katrinak adds 25 goals and 23 assists for 48 points. Dana Mirigliano has been impressive in goal with 108 saves and an 11.15 GAA.
