Gannon Matches Highest Ranking Ever in NABC Top 25

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's basketball team ended the regular season last Saturday with an 84-75 win at Seton Hill to improve to 26-2 on the season. On Tuesday the Golden Knights found out that they climbed two spots in the latest NABC Division II Top 25 and have now matched their highest ranking ever in the coaches poll. Both the NABC and D2CSC Media Polls were released on Tuesday.

Gannon is now ranked third in the NABC Top 25, moving up from last week. That ties for the highest in program history. Gannon was ranked third in the December 18 poll in 1969-70 and was also third in the February 8 poll in 1987-88. Gannon is third in the D2CSC poll, as well, moving up one spot.

Coupled with the women's basketball team being ranked fourth in the latest WBCA Division II Top 25 it once again marks the first season both of Gannon's basketball teams have resided in the top five in the national polls at the same time.

Defending national Nova Southeastern moved into the top spot in the rankings a week ago and remained there this week with a 24-2 record. The Sharks are number in both polls. Fort Lewis, ranked second last week, lost as did fourth-ranked West Texas A&M, setting up shuffling in the top five. Minnesota State (27-2) moved into second place from third and Gannon followed. Northwest Missouri State (24-4) and Colorado Mesa (25-3) round out the top five.

Minnesota State is ranked second in the D2CSC poll with Gannon climbing to third and picking up one first place vote. West Texas A&M fell one spot to fourth and Northwest Missouri State rounds out the top five.

Gannon begins PSAC Tournament action on Wednesday, March 6 hosting Indiana (Pa.) in a PSAC Quarterfinal contest.
