ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon baseball team will look to get one last non-conference game in before opening up PSAC West action this weekend. The Golden Knights are scheduled to play at Fairmont State on Wednesday, March 20 in a contest originally scheduled for Tuesday. The nine-inning contest will take place at Mylan Park in Morgantown, W.Va.

The Golden Knights have gotten off to a slow start at 1-11 with PSAC West action looming this weekend. Gannon will play a doubleheader at Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday, March 23 before the two teams return to McConnell Family Stadium for a doubleheader the next day.

Despite the record, Gannon has had some very promising outings, including a 3-2 loss in nine innings against then No. 18 West Chester. The Golden Knights picked up their win thanks to a 2-1 decision over Tiffin on Jared Bielanin's (Erie, Pa./McDowell) walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning. Four of the team's losses have been by a run.

Third-year head coach DJ Cannon knew going into the season he had a very young squad. He has been hampered by injuries to several key returning veterans. Bielanin, a senior third baseman, leads the Golden Knights with a .256 batting average with seven RBIs. Freshman Alex Bemis (Monroe, Ohio/Monroe) has taken over at shortstop and is hitting .242 with four doubles and a home run among his eight hits.

Like Gannon Fairmont State is off to a slow start at 2-12 and are 1-3 in Mountain East Conference action. The Falcons were picked to finish fourth in the MEC North Division.

Quintin Smith has a team-leading .367 batting average with a pair of home runs. Ryan Goff is hitting .333 while Cameron Sheets comes in at .275 but has driven in a team-high 10 runs.
