ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's lacrosse team won its second game in a row during the home portion of its schedule.
The Golden Knights led 10-0 after the first quarter and 15-0 at the half as they claimed a 20-1 win over Malone University on Tuesday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium. The game was called by the officials with 13:51 remaining in the fourth quarter because of an injury.
Gannon improved to 2-3 after dropping their first three games of the year, all on the road. Two of those were tough losses in the final minute.
The Knights opened their home season a week ago with a 15-8 victory over Daemen.
On Tuesday, Gannon featured a very balanced scoring attack as senior attacker
McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) had four goals and an assist and junior midfielder
Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) also scored four goals.
Grad transfer
Madyson Schwartz (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) and sophomore midfielder
Angie George (Brecksville, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) each had a hat trick and an assists. Sophomore midfielder
Charlie Hunter (Boston, N.Y./Hamburg) added two goals and an assist.
Maggie McGinnis (Brunswick, Oh./Brunswick) scored a goal and led Gannon with two assists, while
Emma-Cait Cogan (Westerville, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) and
Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) each added a goal and an assist.
Alyssa Lerch (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) also scored a goal.
Gannon goalie
Riley Finnegan (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) faced only two shots on goal and had one save. Malone goalie Sommer-Jo Grieser made 10 saves on 30 shots on goal.
The Pioneers dropped to 1-3 with their third loss in a row.
Schwartz opened the scoring just 39 seconds into the game off an assist from
Skyler Parsons (Reading, Pa./Exeter Twp.). George scored all three of her goals in the first quarter. GU took a 10-0 lead after scoring four times in the final 1:28 of the opening period.
