No. 12 Men’s Soccer clinches top-seed in PSAC West with 3-2 win at Lock Haven

Golden Knights earn back-to-back PSAC West Regular Season Titles

In a contest that featured the battle of the PSAC West's first-and second-place men's soccer programs, the Golden Knights captured their second straight PSAC West regular season title after earning a 3-2 victory over Lock Haven Saturday afternoon at Hubert Jack Stadium.

Gannon (12-2-3, 6-0-3 PSAC West) received goals from three separate players in the win over the Bald Eagles (8-7-1, 5-4 PSAC West), as Billy Colton's squad was able to clinch the No. 1 seed with one match remaining in the regular season.

As the No. 1 seed in the West, Gannon will have a first-round bye and travel to the Eastern Division top-seed, Bloomsburg, for the 2024 Men's Soccer PSAC Championship with the winner of the tournament earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament. PSAC Semifinals are scheduled for Friday, November 15, while the Championship will be played on Sunday, November 17.

Gannon concludes its regular season on Friday, November 8, when they travel to face Pitt-Johnstown. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 PM at Windber Stadium.  
 
How it Happened
  • The Bald Eagles struck first in the nine minute mark of the contest to take an early, 1-0 lead.
  • Alander Soares (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Escola Estadual de Ensino Medio Santa Catarina) knotted the score at one a piece in the 34th minute mark, with an assist from Santino Giacinti (Parana, Argentina/Instituto Cristo Redentor). Soares, the native of Brazil leads the Golden Knights with 11 goals on the season.
  • James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) added Gannon's second goal of the contest in the 43 rd minute to take a 2-1 advantage over the Bald Eagles. Pool's goal was assisted by Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil) and Soares.
  • Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil) scored Gannon's final goal in the 56th minute for the Golden Knights third unanswered goal. Hyde's goal was assisted by Pau Ferrer (Valencia, Spain/ISES Isabel de Villena) and Bautista Corti (Manuel Alberti, Argentina/Adultos 2000).
  • Lock Haven cut the deficit to one with just over two minutes remaining, but the comeback fell short as the Golden Knights earned a 3-2 victory.
