Hyde Selected PSAC West Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference today released its PSAC weekly awards with Gannon bringing home athlete of the week honors in men's soccer. Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil/) became the fourth Golden Knight to be recognized by the conference. Hyde was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week, joining Per Kristian Lauvstad (Nesoya, Norway/) (twice) and James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) as the Athlete of the Week. Abdo Salem Abdullah (Kristiansand, Norway) was previously named the Defensive Athlete of the Week.

A sophomore forward from Brazil, Hyde paced the 15th-ranked Golden Knights to a win and a tie as they improved to 5-2-2 on the season. He contributed four goals in the two matches, including his first career hat trick.

Hyde accounted for Gannon's lone goal in a 1-1 tie at Slippery Rock last Wednesday. He scored just 5:47 into the match to give Gannon a 1-0 lead. The Rock would tie the match early in the second half as the Golden Knights settled for a 1-1 tie.

The performance was a precursor of big things on Homecoming as Lock haven visited Gannon on Saturday night. Hyde enjoyed the finest game of his Gannon career scoring three of Gannon's first four goals in a 7-0 victory over the Bald Eagles.

He once again scored Gannon's first goal of the match, this one coming at the 7:26 mark. That would turn out to be the only goal of the first half, but the Gannon attack came out on fire to start the second half. Over the first 15-minutes plus of the second half the Golden Knights scored three more goals, two of those courtesy of Hyde.

He found the back of the net at 49:22, and the Golden Knights made it 3-0 with an Alander Soares (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Escola Estadual de Ensino Medio Santa Catarina) goal in the 56th minute. Hyde clinched his first career hat track at 60:46 with his third goal of the match.

The 2023 PSAC West Freshman of the Year, Hyde boosted his season total to five goals. That is tied for the team lead with Lauvstad.
