Volant Leads Golden Knights with Three Goals in Loss to Salem as Seven-Game Winning Streak Comes to an End

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's water polo team saw its seven-game winning streak snapped as it wrapped up play in the WWPA Erie Classic. The Golden Knights dropped a 20-13 decision to a hot Salem team on Sunday morning. The match took place at Cathedral Prep's Hallman Aquatics Center.
 
The Golden Knights ended up winning three of their four games over the three-day tournament. They are now 12-4 overall and 1-1 in WWPA action.
 
The two teams battled to a 4-4 tie after one quarter and the score was still tied at 6-6 late in the second quarter before Salem (15-3) scored three straight goals in the final 2 minutes, 24 seconds to take a 9-6 lead at the half.  
 
The run would continue for the Tigers with two more goals to open the third quarter as Gannon's deficit grew to 11-6. The Golden Knights took advantage of the power play to break the five-goal run on Victor Volant's (Fuveau, France) goal, assisted by Nikiforos Liantziris at 6:48.
 
After trailing by as many as six goals at 15-9 Gannon closed the gap to 15-11 after three periods. Gannon would no closer, however, as the Tigers opened the fourth quarter with three straight goals.

The Golden Knights return to action on Saturday, November 2 competing in the Penn State Behrend Invitational.
