Soares Scores Twice as No. 12 Gannon Wins for the Seventh Straight Time, 6-0 over California (Pa.)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – For the second time this season the California (Pa.) men's soccer team found out how quickly 12th-ranked Gannon can score goals. The end result of Saturday's match at the Phillipsburg Complex for Saturday's was a 6-0 win as Gannon won for the seventh straight time.

Gannon improved to 11-2-2 and is now 5-0-2 in PSAC West action. Coupled with Lock Haven's loss to Seton Hill on Saturday the Golden Knights moved into first place in the Western Division. California (Pa.) dropped to 3-7-4 and 0-5-2, respectively.

In the first meeting with the Vulcans eleven days ago Gannon also won 6-0 despite getting off to a slow start. On Saturday, in some respects it was almost a carbon copy. Both matches saw Cal hold Gannon without a goal for the first 30 minutes. Gannon led 2-0 at the half in the first meeting and 1-0 today.

Sverre Orten (Orsta, Norway/Aalesund vgs) scored the lone goal of the first half at 31:04. Alander Soares (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Escola Estadual de Ensino Medio Santa Catarina) scored twice in the first eight minutes of the second half and the Golden Knights pulled away with two goals in the final six minutes.

Saturday's match was the first of four straight on the road to end the 2024 regular season. The road trip continues on Wednesday, October 30 when the Golden Knights play at Seton Hill.

The native of Brazil has now scored six goals in the last four games.
