ERIE, Pa. – After an extended layoff the Gannon men's water polo team returns to action this weekend hosting the WWPA Erie Classic. The Golden Knights will begin conference plays with matches against McKendree and Salem along with facing local rivals Mercyhurst and Penn State Behrend over the three-day period. The tournament takes place at the Hallman Aquatics Center at Cathedral Prep.

The action gets underway on Friday, October 25 with Gannon hosting McKendree in the lone match of the day. Saturday has six matches scheduled including a scrimmage between the Gannon and Mercyhurst women's water polo teams to end the day. The Gannon men take to the pool at 12 noon against Mercyhurst before holding Senior Night festivities vs. Penn State Behrend at 5:00 p.m.

Three more matches are scheduled for Sunday with Gannon facing Salem in a WWPA game at 10:30 p.m.

Four Golden Knights will be recognized at Senior Night. They include Ben Fribourg (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore), Matthew Harkrader (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn), Jordan Kraus (Erie, Pa./McDowell), and Alvaro Marco (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset).
Head coach Zarko Sadikovic's team has not played since sweeping four matches in the Erie Invitational on September 21-22. The Golden Knights enter with a 9-3 record and are riding a four-match winning streak.

Petar Markovic (Belgrade, Serbia), a sophomore from Serbia, leads Gannon with 38 goals and nine assists for 47 points. Freshman Nikiforos Liantziris (Athens, Greece) adds 25 goals and a team-high 17 assists for 42 points, while junior Alexandros Kotskar (Voula, Greece/Athinaiki Agogh) comes in at 30 goals and nine assists for 39 points.

Fribourg enters the weekend needing four goals to reach the 100-goal club with 96 career goals. Marco has a 9.11 GAA and .500 save percentage.
