Race Preview; O'Rourke, Steele Lead Golden Knights into Third Race at Lock Haven Invitational

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon University women's cross country team returns to action following a week off on Saturday, September 23. The Golden Knights will compete in the 22^nd Annual Lock Haven Invitational at the West Branch Cross Country Course. The 6K women's race gets underway at 11:00 a.m.

The last time Gannon competed in the Lock Haven Invitational was 2019, when the Golden Knights placed 16th out of 35 teams. Another large field is anticipated for this year's race.

Head coach Rob Ahrens squad has competed twice in 2023. The season began with the Race at the Park, with Gannon coming in second. The Golden Knights had 39 points, with Allegheny placing first with 25 points and Mercyhurst rounding out the field with 63 points.

Gannon had the top two runners in the race. Emma Steele (Ambridge, Pa./Eden Christian Academy) crossed the finish line first, covering the 4K course in 16:12.3. Cait O'Rourke (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) was second at 16:32.1.

Taylor Friello (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) (11th – 17.40.6), Elissa Scheel (Medina, Ohio/Highland) (12th – 17.48.3), and freshman Isabella Gingras (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) (13^th -- 17:48.6) were the next Golden Knights to finish the race while placing in the top 15.

A week later Gannon competed in the Bethany Bison Invitational and finished seventh out of 20 teams. O'Rourke and Steele flipped spots crossing the finish line, with O'Rourke placing 12th. She finished with a time of 23:48.9 over the 6K course. Steele was just seconds behind at 23:51.87, good for 13th place. Gingras was the third Golden Knight across the line at 26:04.54, good for 50th
