Gannon women's golf team sets two more program records in 2nd-place finish at Charleston

Ditte Petersen shoots career-best 71 as GU places 2nd among 16 teams in Golden Eagle Invitational

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Gannon women's golf team two more team records on Tuesday while a junior standout shot a career-best round.

Coach Scott Stano's Golden Knights placed second among 16 teams, finishing one shot behind the winning team in the season-opening  Charleston Golden Eagle Fall Invitational. Gannon a program record with a 299 score just one day after tying the record of 300. The Knights finished with a program-record two-day total of 599, the first 36-hole, sub-600 team total in Gannon women's golf history.

Meanwhile, junior Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole), the reigning PSAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Year, paced the Knights be shooting a career-best round of even-par 71. She placed fourth on the individual leaderboard with a two-day total of 6-over 148 (77-71).

Petersen had three birdies, 12 pars and three bogeys.

Freshman Close Mateo tied for fifth with 149 (73-76), and Sarah White (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) tied for seventh with 150 (73-77).

Meanwhile Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) shot a 75 of Tuesday tied for 19th with 153.

"I've got to tip my cap to them," Stano said. "They played really well. If you would have told me we'd shoot 599, I would have taken it every time."

Victoria Colmenares (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/ICL Academy) rounded out the lineup by carding a 159 (77-82).
