The College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2022-23 Academic All-District Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Team has been announced, and Gannon University has four cross country runners who were recognized as Academic All-District honorees.
Caleb Mandel (Harborcreek, Pa./Harbor Creek),
Ely Personius (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central),
Gavyn Hansotte (New Castle, Pa./New Castle), and
Alex Chelton (Oil City, Pa./Cathedral Prep) were Gannon's representatives on the Academic All-District Team.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 29.
The teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA — for each gender.
Student-athletes must have a 3.50 GPA or better to qualify for the honor, and if in a master's program, they must have a 3.50 GPA as an undergraduate and grad student.
Mandel, a senior, was Gannon's top runner in 2022, and he was named PSAC Men's Cross Country Champion Scholar for the third consecutive season. The Health Sciences/Physician Assistant major has a 3.947 GPA.
Personius, a sophomore, claimed All-PSAC second-team honors and was Gannon's top finisher in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional. He has a 3.856 GPA as a Health Sciences/Physician Therapy major.
Hansotte, a sophomore, placed second at the Bill Lennox Invitational for his top performance in 2022. The Biomedical Engineering major has a 4.0 GPA.
Chelton, a senior, competed in seven of Gannon's eight races in 2022, including a season-best seventh-place effort at the Race in the Park. The Biology major owns a 3.682 GPA.
