ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's lacrosse team makes the short journey down I-79 to play local rival Edinboro in a PSAC West match on Saturday, April 1. The match gets underway at Sox Harrison Stadium at 1:00 p.m.

The Golden Knights are hoping there won't be any April Fool's Day jokes after the last two games have been filled with surprises. Last Sunday Gannon was scheduled to host D'Youville at McConnell Family Stadium at 1:00 p.m. High winds damaged an area of fencing surrounding the field on Saturday, forcing the contest to be moved to Mercyhurst University at 5:00 p.m. Gannon rallied form a 10-4 deficit to close within a goal before losing 14-12.

On Wednesday the Golden Knights hosted Slippery Rock in a PSAC match. Neither team scored for almost ten minutes to start the game before The Rock broke through. Slippery Rock would go on to win 13-3 but the story was the weather. High winds again buffeted McConnell Family Stadium, and rain started to fall as the game began. Temperatures dropped and it quickly turned to snow. It started to cover the field at halftime and the officials called the game due to the field conditions after three periods.

The loss to Slippery Rock left Gannon at 1-8 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC West. Edinboro also battled adverse weather conditions on Wednesday while hosting and losing to Mercyhurst 14-1. That left the Fighting Scots at 2-7 and 0-4 in league play.

Head coach Jennifer Pawlowski's team has specialized in comebacks this year, but with both Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) and Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) out with injuries they struggled.

McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) led Gannon in its lone win of the season, a 14-13 come-from-behind victory over Lock Haven. The junior attacker had a career-high seven goals in the win and leads the Golden Knights with 18 goals, boosting her career total to 98. The 2021 PSAC West Freshman of the Year leads in points with 20.

Stevens has 13 goals and a team-high six assists for 19 points. Hepditch has 10 goals and three assists. Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) has five goals in her last two matches to boost her total to 10 goals along with an assist.

Early in the year Pawlowski used both Riley Finnegan (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) and Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge). Finnegan played the final 43:22 against Lock Haven and finished with eight saves while allowing five goals. Manning has gone the distance the last three games. She has a 15.70 GAA with 50 saves while Finnegan is at 16.82 GAA with 27 saves.

Edinboro has lost six straight matches and has scored just 19 goals in those contests. But the Golden Knights will have to contend with a dangerous scorer in Ryle Jones who has 23 goals and nine assists for 32 points.

The Edinboro match starts a stretch of three straight road games for the Golden Knights. They play at Mercyhurst on April 5 followed by a game at Indiana (Pa.) on April 7.
